This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

Vaccinating teachers would make me feel better about sending my kids to school. Them teachers party hard, no way they aren't out partying right now, lol.

Well that is the definition of Obese by the BMI scale. BMI sucks anyway, way outdated.

Nope that is "overweight", not obese. And it doesn't meet nj eligibility requirements. But you're right, bmi is a joke and it's even more ridiculous that nj is using it to allow people to get vaccinated ahead of those who are really more vulnerable. Stupid gov Beetlejuice again...

Adult BMI of 30+ is classified obese.

I meant 30+ is obese.

I like how FL is doing it by risk - primarily age. Our group (60+) is going to open up in a week or 2, then 55+ a week later. Vaccinating teachers of any age (and especially those not even in school) before 65+ is idiotic.
Why would that be idiotic? Teachers that are required to be working in school around students vs people who generally have no work responsibilities and can for the most part stay away from others.

Risk of death at age 65+ is orders of magnitude higher than 20 - 40. Besides, how many NJ teachers are actually in school and exposed to students? Our son at Rutgers hasn't been in a classroom in a year. So yes, idiotic policy

schools can re-open if the teachers are vaccinated. It is the teachers union in many towns insisting on it.
kids are germ factories, everyone knows it. It isn't always about death or hospitalizations.

schools can re-open any time, this is pure politics over science. no surprise tho with nj's sky-high death rate

Besides, don't be silly - there's only 2+ months left of the school year, they aren't going to reopen before September. They have all summer to vaccinate teachers - and the supply will be high enough that even students can start getting shots.

it is all over the place, hopewell has been open since September, hybrid, but still.

The two neighboring school districts to me have been back 4 days for at least a month now. My district starts back 4 days at the end of the month. Supposedly our district has 1800 employees and we will have 500 of the J&J vaccine soon. The bases by school have been minimal and have most been the teachers.

I don't think BMI is outdated. Lifespan is higher with people in a normal BMI range. As you stray from a normal BMI, whichever direction, your chances of doing early rise. People just think it's outdated because we are fatter than ever.

Since the beginning of vaccination I've been conflicted on what I thought was the best way to go about it. Start with the most likely to die? Or start with the most likely to spread it? Either way, lives will be saved. So I really have no issue with anyone being able to get it.

Schools down here have been open all school year. Parents have the choice of keeping kids home but I hear most are going to class.

Well up in NW Sussex County, school is in session in person. And teachers I've spoken to want the shots and to stay in school. Do my grandparents want the shot? Yes. But they are able to do as they have been doing by going to stores minimally and staying within the family. Do seniors in nursing homes need the shot ASAP? Yes. But so do teachers who are exposed to hundreds of people each day.
