What Bird Did You See Today?

Pileated Woodpecker yesterday, driving to work it flew across the road and landed on a utility pole. It was small/medium-sized, not the preferred prehistoric monster.

Today, big Tom-turkey, also on my way to work, off the side of the road picking beneath a big pine tree.

The dog kept barking the other night at the front door but could not figure out what she was hearing. She is trained to bark so I have to call her off and use a command to make her stop but this time she kept barking. I opened and closed the front door like 3 times but didn’t see anything.

Then this morning before I got her out of the cage I heard something and checked the new decorative wreath my wife hung on the front door.

Pretty sure we will have some robin eggs soon. This happened a few years ago but some neigborhood punks took the eggs and smashed them. That was before we had the dog so hopefully she doesn’t go nuts while they incubate and hatch.

Easy enough to go in and out via the garage if eggs show up.

Stay tuned.

Yes, they don't make the most neat of nests...I have one on a tree in front of the kitchen window and before it took its final shape they tried all sorts of material, include a couple of plastic strips they've who knows where that are still hanging from the branch the nest seats on...

She’s been busy today packing in mud and more grass. We saw her on my front lawn with a mouthful of dried grass. Too bad she can’t dethatch the whole front yard. 🤪

Hated to do it but I Had to move the whole wreath/nest to a better spot where it won’t get disturbed cause I was afraid it would tilt sideways and fall over if the kids forget to not use the front door. I drove a screw into the wood shingle siding and carefully moved it over to now it’s against the house about 3 feet over from the front door and up a bit higher. I was careful not to touch the nest part.

Hope she comes back and lays the eggs.

Got some eggs in mine. Nest is in the corner of the gazebo roof. Better than last year when the mourning doves made a nest nest above the fan in the middle of the gazebo. Took down the fan this year so they wouldn't do it again. At least the robins are kinda out of the way. My 4 year old is excited to see the bird babies.

Looks like she’s not coming back the nest has looked the same for a few days now.

Really didn’t have much choice the front door wreath wasn’t a good spot and anyway it was all tilting to one side.

I will check one more time tmw but probably have to take it down. ☹️

Hoping Mother Nature doesn’t send me bad karma but I’m guessing the cars will have extra bird crap on them when the bird mafia gets its revenge.

Not sure what their nesting procedure is but we have two nest in the bushes around the house that we found, they were pretty busy building them and then once they were built...mama and papà bird disappeared!

Momma has been busy. Caught her on the nest finally yesterday before my lunch rode. Pic is grainy cause I had to zoom in.

Oh and she added to the collection this morning it seems.

Later today I’m gonna secure the wreath better to the wall so it doesn’t tilt over. Worried a strong wind will make it rotate and dump the nest.

Not sure, but looking at pictures of female robins on the internet it's most likely a robin. It just looks different from the ones I have on my garden and nothing like this female Robin...

But the dress kinda matches.

Oh yeah and now there’s 4.

I secured the wreath to the wall with a string so it’s more upright now and less chance it tips over
