This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

That's the thing, why is it even an argument? These political misinformation campaigns are causing all this. In this guy's case, he has a choice, get the vaccine and an opportunity to keep on living or die. And not in an "we're all gonna die eventually" kinda way, but in a very soon kinda way. Yet that's the hill he wants to die on? With no reason except he doesn't believe in the vaccine? This is how mind fucked these people have become. There's medical indications to get it for him, he literally can not become vaccinated after a transplant. He can get the shot, but his immune system would be fucked and it literally wouldn't do anything. Anyone with a transplant should be getting evushield for prophylactic covid protection, but he's not in that position. So he's literally going to die for a political choice. Baffles my brain
Y
You're dead wrong on this. Rare side effects are his concern? Worse side effects from the drugs he's currently taking and will have to take after a transplant. This ONE drug he doesn't trust? Bullshit. Political bullshit. How about he listens to his doctors about his risks instead of Joe Rogan.
Your definitely making lots of assumptions.

I haven't put any of my views in this thread. But I just wanna say there are alot more closed minded people here then I thought. Everyone has different fears and beliefs. The vaccine isn't the only way to prevent or treat covid.
Some of you really need to step off that soapbox.

This is pretty sad. Sad that you would think someone dosent deserve to live.
Not that he doesn't deserve to live, but maybe deserves it less than someone else also needing a heart. It's not like I want the guy to die but there's only so many organs to go around.

(Insert joke about not being heartless here)

So before anyone receives any transplant they should look into their history to see if they "deserve" it.
You didn't exercise you can die
You were a smoker you can die
You drink alcohol you can die
These are all choices people make.

It's more in line of what I was saying before with the liver transplant. If you're going to drink yourself to needing a liver, you shouldn't get a new liver without fixing that problem. You shouldn't get a lung transplant if you're going to smoke with the new lung.

I'm not saying this guy should die, or not get the heart transplant. But honestly if it's a new heart with the vaccine or no new heart, get the vaccine, even if it's idiotic.

I've been arguing for awhile on here about how mandatory vaccines for people who have natural immunity is stupid. But sometimes you gotta suck up that stupid and go with it. If you're feeding a family and your job forces you to get the vaccine you may have to suck it up and go with stupid. No heart transplant without a vaccine, you may have to suck it up and take the risk.

The ethics of who receives priority for organ transplant are complicated and I'm glad that I don't have to make those kinds of decisions.

This case doesn't seem that complicated. He's being given medical guidance to get vaccinated against something that has a likelihood of killing him after receiving the organ transplant and is immunocompromised. It's part of an overall plan of care, not a value judgement against him as a person.

I take what you saying more along the line of the guy is/made a choice to not get vaccinated so he dosent deserve it.

But
The guy who chose to do drink can get a liver as long as he stops the behavior after the transplant.
Maybe I'm reading into it wrong

I'd love nothing more than the guy who destroyed his liver to turn himself around and live a healthy life after getting a new liver. But we don't just make these organs easily in factories so we need some method of deciding who gets them.

I also don't think those are great examples just in the fact that drinking/smoking can't just be chalked up to bad decisions. There's tons of other factors, I don't expect someone who grew up smoking/drinking to just make the decision to stop one day.

Just like I won't laugh at the super anti-vax people that die of Covid. Everyone ends up at these decisions due to tons of factors, if it's the wrong decision I still feel bad for them.

This is where I lose you. Drinking/smoking are definitely choices you make.
You don't just grow up drinking or smoking.

And someone who does can just stop. Its honestly difficult but not all that hard to accomplish(I know)

Everything is a choice, but none of it is easy. I'm glad it was not hard for you, but for others it's incredibly hard. Life factors like living and working with a smoker, social life baed on drinking, life stress, etc.

Yeah it's easy to say it's a decision but when someone's life is a mess, these decisions aren't "easy".

That's my point. It's a choice.

You don't want to get vaccinated?

Not "can't get vaccinated because of underlying conditions" or whatever. If you make a choice to not get vaccinated, then I am fine with giving that heart for a transplant to someone who can get some mileage out of it.

#justdie

Flame away, as if I actually GAF.
