Started with a few minutes in and need to finish this some day. I didn’t know you had RX7’s. I thought the restart issue on them was from loss of compression from expansion? I have two friends that just picked up RX8’s in the last year and I know that was one of the tests they do when seeing a car. Thought the no start when hot means either bad compression/seals, or more major issues. One of them came from an FD. I love FD’s, just not so much the popcorn maker under the hood. Always thought the LS swapped ones were perfect.

Maybe? This was before the internet and I was a dumb 20 year old kid. My understanding was that these were two separate issues. All I know is I never started the car unless I could run it 15+ minutes and I never parked in driveways in case I had to move to let someone out lol.

Are there vehicle inspections in NC? Are there standards to what is road worthy?
Not being snobby, just curious how far you can go. Would an old VW dune buggy get plates?
I'm not there yet with crazy cars. 🙂 But honestly something like that ridiculous Ford could easily replace my Honda Fit as my drives now are from my house into downtown or to trail heads. And a lot of these trailheads are steep/gravel/offroadish so some stupid buggy would be perfect.

-There are inspections. We get one "free" year transferring the cars to NC but then must do inspection. Which is great as mine has been expired for two years.
-I'm assuming no inspections on diesels. So many stupid brodozers with black exhaust and the stench. Town nearby housed the biggest emissions-delete company for diesels and they are facing some serious federal fines and maybe jail time. Good.
-I think you're fine with an old VW in pretty much any state. NJ has the QQ plates, and I'm not sure what's going on with the collector plates. Years ago I brought my 1981 Mustang to the DMV in NJ to get the "inspection" sticker and the woman was FURIOUS having to give me a sticker with no inspection. I showed up with no interior except for the driver's seat with two bolts holding it down. I'm sure there's something similar here. And when you get old you realize 25 years old is cars that still seem new-ish.
-The contraption above is probably old enough that it can pass the inspection for that year if it's not burning oil, or may be exempt. I'm actually wondering if surrounding, more rural counties don't have inspections. I'm in the big city.

I'm holding out for US Postal Service LLVs to get sold at auction and I'll get one of those for driving around town. 🙂

Most Subaru guys are not big fans of the plastic cladding on the '22 WRX. I don't think it looks all that bad, plus I'm sure it's somewhat functional to prevent against door dings. I kind of wish my '12 STi had them.
I'm not a big fan I prefer my '17, the '11-14 hatch or better yet a '98 22B😍. The WRX got so big it just looks like a smushed down Crosstrek to me now. The plastic isn't too bad on the darker colors like the gray in the pic, but on the lighter color cars it just makes it look like you have a huge wheel gap. Even if you lower it, it still looks like you didn't lower it great!

And on a side note when did it become legal to tint your front windshield or any of the front windows for that matter in NJ? I've seen dozens of cars lately with tinted windshields. And not even lightly tinted, but full on you can barley see through it kind of tint. Why?? Is it easier than wearing sunglasses or something?

The XJS were such a nightmare. It looks like most go for under $20K on bring a trailer.
True dat. We used to get shipments of them off the boat in Elizabeth (V12 hardtop version) and on average 3 or 4 of the 25 or so we received each shipment, brand new, wouldn’t start. Piss poor, all around for a “high end” car.

Full disclosure, was the late ‘80’s so maybe better now (doubtful).

Edit: the brand new 5.0 Fox body Mustangs that came into our shop in the same time frame were an absolute blast to drive, no such Lucas electrics woes.

Pretty sure today I saw out in Wayne NJ area what looked like a sprinter van but it has right hand drive and was delivering to curbside mailboxes. RHD car would totally mess me up.

Yeah there's a ton of those. My deliveries at my office in NJ were one. Sprinter Vans with the emblems replaced with USPS eagles instead of Mercedes.

Down where I am now in the town it's regular LLV mail trucks but I see a lot of left hand converted mail jeeps and Chrysler minivans I assume for the more rural/mountains.

RHD is weird but if I'm just going a few miles I would probably be OK. It's not like they are stick shift. 🙂

Way back in this thread I posted a picture of what I thought was a blinged out Toyota Avalon in the six mile parking lot and then saw the driver get out of the passenger side. Imported Toyota from Japan.
