New Levo Sl today. Not much info here:

Lol, people will buy it, over fork it, over shock it and the Kenevo will still be better. Xc and trail e bikes seem to end up with people wanting a bigger bike. It might be different if the xc e bikes had a higher speed limiter. A E-Caliber might be “cool” if you could climb a hill at 28mph but it’s limited to the same speed as a big old 180mm travel e bike. What’s the point low travel light e bikes? If the bikes to heavy, start doing more upper body work. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go out and do some Kenevo clean an presses.

Many will buy the mid power as a first commitment, that small step to the darkside.
Midpower or trail type bikes actually fit the bill for most parks around here.

So while owning that midpower bike you come to understand i can even increase the fun factor 2 fold with a full power bighit bike. You just skipped that first step lol.

Plus owning an ebike doesnt stop N+1

I wouldn't doubt that in 5 or 10 years you will see more ebikes in the woods than analog bikes. I bet it will be something like 75% ebikes, 25% analog. They are getting so light and almost indistinguishable from a regular bike(Specialized levo sl for example). Non bikers would have no idea that it is an ebike. They are only going to get more discreet as time goes on. Forget about age and ability, ebikes are so much fun for anyone to ride with any skill level or capability. Once you try one you will be hooked.

Definitely. I have a few friends with e-bikes now and so far one of them now has two - her full power Heckler and a lighter and newer Trek. Since she is usually riding with others without e-bikes, she usually rides in eco mode with minimal assistance, thus ending an average ride than a lot more battery reserve than she needs. As our rides often have large, unrideable (by most) log-overs, weight was also a large consideration. While she is not weak (former body building champ), getting the heavy Heckler over some downed trees requires help. Hopefully I'll see her this weekend and can get an idea of when/why she is choosing one bike over the other.

My thoughts:

Some motors can emit quite a bit of pitch/noise.
Even at around 53lbs, ebikes are easily pedaled with the motor off. Like I’d probably ride with it off for downhills and flats.
Varies by brand but I cannot see using anything but eco mode 90% of the time. Maybe it is because of my strong legs or light weight..idk.
I certainly wouldn’t spend $13k on one, let alone $5k. But if one happened to pop up at $2k, I’d probably give it a whirl.

Also from what I have gathered, I believe that a Levo SL would be the right choice for me. But not at that price point.

An interesting phenomenon I should have seen coming…

Locally, e-bikes seem to sell even more seasonally than analog bikes. It does seem that in general, ebike riders are more fair-weather riders.

This leaves us with really only a 4-5 month selling season.

I’m sure this will expand as more hearty riders embrace this technology

Could they be fair weather buyers? Maybe ebikers ride year round about as much as analog bikers but tend to buy more in the fair weather months? Whatever the reason, it doesn't change your selling season dynamic.

I took delivery on mine in August but ordered in January. How do you count that? 🙂

Bike shops should convince ebike buyers they need to buy into a battery subscription plan to get a new battery every year. The old one gets dumped into a garbage pit and buried in china so we can stimulate the US economy.

To stimulate bike buyers, you have to make a year round constant flow of money. What about some sort of subscription service?

I believe almost every single bike sale is either an impulse buy and bought with money carelessly alloted that was given out by the goverment.

I bought 2 bikes from bike shops, one from rt15 decades ago and one from cycleworks. I have no business in bike shops other than to look around or buy spokes. I'm never going to buy a 5k 4k or 3k bike ever i'm not rich and know i don't need the latest thing to have fun. I am trying to think of ways to bring in a nice flow of business other than put a bike shop in an affluent town.

Anyone else recently greeted by NO E-bike signs at the local grocery store?

E-Bike battery issues are a legitimate issue.

However I would *assume* most of the ebikes on actual trails are from reputable companies with safe batteries. The issue is really the alibaba commuter bikes.

The batteries don't tend to catch fire while riding, it's while charging.

Are you finding that ebike purchasers are seasoned riders or new riders or is it a good mix compared to regular bikes?
I'm wondering if the seasonality is because ebike people are new and buying it because it's the warmer months and that's when they're thinking about it.

I know I'm not thinking about a new bike when it's warm and I'm out riding, I'm thinking about it when it's cold and wishing I was riding.

I understand that it's kind of hard to legislate in terms of specific brands of batteries and bikes, but are all the NYC fires due exclusively to those horrible contraptions you se zipping everywhere in the city, not a single pedal stroke being performed?

Actually kind of easy to legislate. There's certifications for the batteries that I believe any/most/all of the reputable companies meet. Doesn't mean people won't buy stuff from Alibaba.

Pretty sure it's all those contraptions.

This story may have been posted earlier, but legislating the bike shops is one of the bigger items too.

Are all the NYC fires due to uncertified batteries then? Not sure the presence of certification would assure safety either.
