XC Mountain Bike Schedule for 2023 (Schedule on 1st Post)

Do people at the pointy end actually block?
Or is asking to pass not a thing anymore?
I feel like teams used to do it somewhat....but the winners are still going to win, might have just been a little closer otherwise.

And I have passed MANY people in the warthog section over the years, never had an issue. Pull up behind someone...usually they hear you....give them 10 seconds or so...usually they will ask if you want to pass. Nobody enjoys having someone riding their wheel. If I know them I will say hi and exchange pleasantries.....then I will tell them what side im passing on. And I hate even attempting to get holeshots and like to sit in the back for the first 10 min.

In a situation like @jShort is talking about...where perhaps the people in front of you are not just easy passes....they are moving only slightly slower than what you would want to be going....meantime the leader is pulling away. Well I know im now resting and saving juice, the leader is in full burn.....Im ok with hanging out for a few minutes, then putting out a big burst where I know the terrain favors the more rested person.....such as warthog ending, otterslide climb beginning.....If you are faster than the leader, in 90-120mins, it will shake out and you will end up where you belong.

Are there any endurance races in the Fall? Not usually a race person but want to do one for my college roommate who was big on 100k events but unfortunately has inoperable brain cancer. Haven't ridden much lately so will need the time to build up to that distance and time on the saddle.

MTB races are time trials. Time trials are always won with consistent efforts. Most running records are set with negative splits. I'll never know what it's like to be on the pointy end of a race (pointy back end, yes), but those dynamics don't change just because you can produce more power. Never had an issue passing/being passed.

1 lap with the winner from Bear Creek. Fun he made the same mistake I did at 4:45 so I guess the course was kinda poorly marked.

He messed up the heckle section too. But otherwise he’s casually busting out 5-700watts for extended periods. Pretty impressive. It’ll be even more depressing / impressive to see him get demolished at nationals in the pros class… Maybe not, but most likely.

Impressive effort! That camera angle isn't really doing the ride justice but those power and hr numbers are crazy.

Surprised and glad to see he's running a mechanical group!

wow, that course is WAY different than the ones we did in 2013, 14, 15.....Burms at bear creek? I havent ridden there since the enduro in 2021, looks like quite a few changes.

Yeah they got Dirt Sculpt to come in over the winter to build them. I posted screenshots of their posts in the Nationals thread.

It was a super fun course.

Didn't race personally but went to support a friend at the Challenger Race. He won CAT3 for Men's 19-29! Off to CAT2 next year for em 🙌

I'm not, I did 3 laps Sunday. Really enjoyed the new bits of trail added in. When the awful parts of yellow are eliminated it's going to be an awesome course.
There's a part of me that really like that the race course was the same exact mediocre trails year after year.

New race loop was awesome….So much better than previous years. I didn’t miss the constant climbing. And the new trails will even better once they’re broken in
