Going Long and Hard.

French cuisine is great, a little sophisticated for my taste, but great. Pizza is definitely not on the menu, they probably screw with in on purpose because it’s ‘talian…have you thought about the Italian Divide? I believe JP did it and liked it, food and all.

There’s a few things on my list. I’ll put in for the London-Edinburgh Lottery again and see if that pans out. There’s also a 1,200 through Norway that is on my list. And of course any route through or around Iceland. Flights are dirt cheap to Iceland so that could be an easy one. I have a couple years for anything more involved because it would require me to quit my job. I’d also like to do the 1,200 in Alaska because riding there in Summer would be cool and I have a place to stay.

Hey look, a photo of me riding my bike. It was too hot to wear my cool wool Jersey 😟

Trying to find my rhythm after France. I have the Big Lick on the schedule in about a Month, but I honestly don’t think I’ll do any prep for it outside of riding the STR more and going over Washington Rock during my Commute. The Promoter changed the ride twice already and I’ve had to swap travel and PTO days, so I may go out and do it like the Slumber Party in 24 hours like it was originally supposed to be.

Here was my week.

Also, I ordered a new aero track frame today and am genuinely excited to put in legit work to be better at that.

The TJ is super legit with the carbon fork. Please tell me it the boost version or I maybe not be able to sleep tonight...

I may have recovered enough from my Friday the 13th Adventure to write something about it. I tried this ride last Fall with a few people and unfortunatly the group wasn't as motivated to explore a way in as I was so this round I went in Solo and started right from Footbridge Park so I could spend as much time as needed.

Started up the hill through Blairstown which is the opening scene in the movie where Annie walks through the Theater. Up Millbrook Road to the AT trail. Millbrook is where the truck driver is driving Annie to camp, although in real life they were driving away from camp.

This section of the AT is not really rideable at all so I hiked my bike up to a powerline clearing that on Google Maps looked like it went down to the lake. You can see the powerlines in the movie also. Turns out it's a cliff and there really isn't a way down from there. So I hiked the AT farther down to the opposite side of the lake and found a trail with Red markers that looked like it went where I needed to go. Brutal hike a bike that ended up getting me nowhere. Probably another hour wasted and now I was out of water and decided to call it and hike back to the road.

Close to the road I found a 2nd trail that looked like it could be where I need to go so despite having no water, I headed down. This one was the money trail and dropped me right into the back of property across from the beach. I left my bike and scouted around to see if anyone was around. Figured I really looked lost, and actually was lost, so when I got caught it would seem legit.

Took pictures quickly of the lake and wasn't kicked out. Went to the boats, not kicked out. Tried to find some of the film cabins, not kicked out. Place was empty 🙂

Rode out the front door and took the Sand Pond Trail right back the road. Could've saved 4ish hours of hiking in S-Works Shoes!!

On the way home I drove to Hope to finish up some of the other Film Locations like the Cemetary, Store, and Crazy Ralph Scene. Totally a dork thing to do, but, there it is...

I swapped my UnPaved Reg to the Slumber Party so I can do the ride the way the Big Lick was originally presented, having some issues getting that Monday off. The Campground is a Checkpoint in both rides so I'll ride the Big Lick Loop self-supported to Camp and then see where the routes split again.

We adopted a Tortoise so have spent the past few days getting him settled in and used to us. Built an enclosure out of out the dog’s cage for now. He has a hide and we just got a big roll of outdoor carpet and cut it to size. Made a couple so we can just hose one off and swap it out when he pees on it. The last 2 days he’s only been in the enclosure to eat and sleep and the rest of the day he just wanders around the house. Made several ramp variations but seemed to work out one that he can get up.

Slumber Lick prep. Really just dusting off this bike and getting used to the new bars and position. I swapped my Reg into the Slumber Party so I can leave Saturday and then Cima swapped me back because they’re going to change the Big Lick into a 2-day event anyway. Apparently I wasn’t the only one that struggled with the idea of doing 200 miles in the same time the rest of the field has to do 120 😂

Was wondering how they would make that work I haven’t done the event but I’ve seen some of my much stronger friends do the 120 and it takes like 10+ hours
