Colonoscopy, how long after...

The prep they gave me wasn’t bad, my wife cried foul and requested it the next time she got one (Crohn’s, you get them often). Sutab it was called. Bunch of pills, not that stuff you drink.

When even my two young sons had them before me (again Crohn’s) I had a hard time putting it off more than a year. Had it done when I was 51, never been under anesthesia before. That was the part that worried me the most.

I’m a 4 time veteran and have had polyps removed (benign) during the procedure a few times.

As mentioned if they give you the gallon size jug drink it all and just sit on the toilet for the last glass or 2. If you don’t clear the pipes properly when they pump your colon full of air it will be the worst gas pains ever.

For me the anesthesia is the worst part I was zonked afterwards and my wife said I was babbling incoherently for an hour in recovery.

Reading all the comments and @Frank words of wisdom, and having just lost a close friend to cancer this week (not colon but Erik same idea) , I’ll be scheduling my long overdue one very soon.

The prep is the worse, you dont want to be working for the prep. Also, there's 2 types of prep. Once easier on the body than the other. Last time i had it done i drank like 2 huge bottles of gateraide and some pill.

When you are in that anesthesia you are not out. You think you are out, but you are answering questions and moving as they tell you to. Like being on a date with Bill Cosby.
for me it was count to 1....2.....gone. once awake, for the next 20 minutes while waiting to be cleared I was trying to remember WTF just happened.

Same year as my first colonoscopy I had cataract surgery......now that was a lot more like your Cosby show....which made it creepier because its your eyeball.

Prep for me was brutal- it was the gallon of lime flavored seawater @Dusty the Whale mentioned.
Like 8oz every 10-15 minutes or something.
2 hours glued to the can.
I just brought a book and hung out.

Procedure itself was cake.
Best nap you’ll ever have as they say.
Key is to have a first thing in the am appointment. Get it over with so you’re not sitting around waiting and dreading.

I come out of anesthesia pretty well- I’m chatting up the nurses and they’re like wtf are you doing here already?

And plan on needing to eat afterwards.
I hadn’t. Best neighbor in the world dropped off a Gino’s cheesesteak.
Ate that and had a pot of coffee.
Pretty good day.

But it's a tad thicker than water but thinner than 0-20 oil

Request Clenpiq prep next time. Two small bottles, that's it!

Condolences bro, never easy

All my prep stuff is OTC. Just Miralax with a gallon of Gatorade (not red or purple) and 4 Ducolax pills. All starting at 4pm today.

I purchased the pack at the dr (using FSA card) miralax, a lemonade mix pack, ducolax, and one more item, don't remember.
glass bottle, a little sweet - drank last over ice. none was horrible.

Grab some tucks from the store and put them in your fridge.

GL w/the procedure.

Different doctors seem to require different prep. Some let you start prepping the night before. My last one had me start first thing the day before and said i couldn't eat all day. Was stupid as I was cleaned out by 2PM and my procedure wasn't until 10AM the following day. That's just suffering for suffering's sake.

This is good advice.^^

Prep H Cream too (Ointment is too greasy and will stain your clothes) or sometimes the doc can prescribe Rx level to reduce any post procedure irritation the next few days.

Geez, I have to schedule my first one soon (colon cancer in the family). Didn’t know about the violent pooping.
