Let's see your EMTBs!

Not mine, but a Halters Demo. First time I've been at Chimney Rock in a few years. The power of the eBike allowed for me to focus more on the technical riding of CR way better than sucking wind and falling all over the place. I don't see it as a replacement for the analog version, however, it has its place as a tool to get out and ride with faster folks and in technical more vertical trails.

Not enough travel. Min 160 out back.

My god Orbea has the most annoying website I've ever seen... so many embedded videos I do NOT want to watch.
Id imagine in a few years you'll find what you think is the perfect bike, but IMO the weight thing holding you back (if that's your thing) is probably the least concern once you get some time. IIRC you posted plenty about DH racing back in the he day, those bikes were 55-60 lbs. Good geometry good motor good suspension and good brakes, have at it. Depending on the ride length I get more upper body fatigue before leg fatigue. Never have I said boy I wish my Orbea Wild was lighter, well with the exception loading after a hard ride 🤣 Either way get over to Halters or any other shop that has demos, and lay down a proper hard 2hrs on the trail. My personal opinion skip the midpower go straight to full power.

What's even funnier this is coming from a perennial OOS MOGA which didn't make the list above 🤣
TBH, I really want one, but not going to happen this year with the limited disposable income. A few years back tested an entry level Giant which was terrible but a mid power Rocky Mt was loads of fun. I'm still unsure about why I'd want full power. If okay riding OOS pace and sessioning skinnies/jumps, why not just stick with mid? Is full power just for going faster?

Again only my opinion
Bigger battery
Normally more suspension, you cannot have too much suspension with an ebike
Bigger challenges, climbing stupid climbs
More power who doesn't like more power!
Trust me you can go hard and feel same as you would on a regular, most people don't and that's ok. We have some very spirited rides that right now I'm the OOS guy haha...

I was told I'll lose any conditioning I have due to getting an e mtb. Pffftttt.....
I found out really fast that I'm as winded and sore, maybe more so, when I'm done riding my Cannondale. Riding that thing around the woods is a real workout.
Are they for everyone? of course not, but I'll be 68 in June and very happy I have one to carry me around as I ride into my golden years. Just my opinion.

Yeah... but I was also a weight-weenie when i came to my DH bikes. And even my Megatower would struggle to get much lighter. I agree I do need to get out on a trail to determine what feels good to me. On Sat I was at Halter's and rode jdog's Pivot Shuttle and Moterra demo bikes, but only around the parking lot, which isn't really much of a test. Part of it is the super-short stem on both bikes, which I really don't like at the moment but neither felt all that good at least in a parking lot setting. The Shuttle felt terrible. The Moterra felt better but didn't give me warm-fuzzies either to make me want to whip out the Discover for one.

I suppose I'm hung up on the weight thing because of how I ride. I hop over and jump stuff a lot. However, I am not the most muscular guy around. I was able to get the Moterra off the ground reasonably well. The Shuttle just felt like a tank. I don't care how much power the bike has, if I can't toss it around then I'm not interested.

Thanks, and yes i have one of those metal skidplates. I've smashed it pretty hard a few times

Just be careful with those plates. I've seen a significant amount of motor and battery failures due to the amount of shock they transfer into the system. The plastic one isn't nearly as strong, but it's meant to be that way. Like a replaceable derailleur hanger, break the cheap shitty part and not the thousands of dollar e-parts.

good point 🤔

I think that's a big decision to make. From what I have seen in reviews is that the midrange bikes feel and handle more like a regular mtb bike while the full power bikes have a completely different feel and need more adjustments in your riding style. I'm still not sure which way to go when I go in on this. Dr. Says go easy on my heart ❤️ but dam I love pain. Anyway I think I might get both. ;*)
But that new Rise may cover that in one hit?

The weird thing - on that last pedal stroke on an acoustic bike before you put your foot down, is an entirely different event on an ebike.
I forget this 10x a day. I want to come to a stop, angle for my left foot to be at the bottom of the stroke, and go to put my right foot down,
but the motor kicks in, and scares the crap out of me!
