Hiking Recommendation

Any recommendation for hiking in the area. I use Alltrails to find some but it would be great to get recommendations. I am more than willing to drive couple of hours and camp overnight for good hiking experience. Here are the hikes that I have done last year:
  1. Buttermilk Falls and Crater Lake Loop
  2. Long Path and Shore Trailf (Stairs)
  3. Bear Mountain
  4. Wyanokie High Point
  5. Sourland
Looking for additional options. There are definitely more trails around the first 4 but would love to explore other areas of the NY/NJ/PA hiking area.
 
- Batona Trail in the Pine Barrens. 50+ miles end to end
- Section hike Appalachian Trail in PA. Friends and I have completed Harrisburg area north to Sunfish Pond in NJ.
 
Harriman State Park is just over the northern NJ border in to NY state, but it's a treasure trove of awesome hiking trails. The AT runs through there and there are quite a few shelters for overnights.

Edit: Just realized you have Bear Mountain listed. Technically separate from Harriman but right next to it.
 
I have done some nice hikes out of Cold Spring NY - Breakneck ridge, Anthony's nose, then closer to the city you have Devil's Staircase
 
Please keep the recommendations coming. Plan to hike as much as I can on the weekend’s once the weather warms up.

I was looking at that late summer/fall time frame last year but the state park website kept saying trails were closed off due to storm damage. I am hoping lots more are open this year.

Now's the time to do the Batona before the ticks and chiggers get worse. Already hearing about ticks on Pine Barrens FB page.

Share your camping experience when you are back, especially the camping area that you used. I am going to search through the NY State Park for camping sites once I identify hiking spots. Would love to hike and camp during the week to have more options for camp sites provided cell connection is good so I can work if needed 🙂

With the kids we find it's easier just to stay at a KOA. They're all pretty much the same. Not overly private at all. If you're tent camping then state parks would probably be the way to go

We stayed at an Airbnb in Wallkill. Neighboring Mohonk Preserve should also be considered if you're in the area.
 
Out by the water gap...

Mt Tammany
Mt Minsi

They're right across the river from each other and you can get from one to the other on foot if you're feeling it. I much prefer Minsi due to smaller crowds. Parking is limited at both trail heads so go early.

I hiked there all summer and through the fall and only encountered one trail that was closed (Cornell Mine trail headed south up Dunderberg Mountain). Everything else I hiked was good to go. Highly recommend.
