So as I saw several of my maga FB posting about how much they HATE Bruce Springsteen now and i just laughed to myself....like ok, so now the standard is: "I now hate any musician who criticizes daddy"....so it made me wonder....who are maga approved musicians? Kanye West, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Ted Nugent....anyone else?

Most of you are probably old enough to remember how Regan referred several times to "Born in the USA" as some kind of patriotic song celebrating America...Used it as part of his campaign in 84...then Bruce getting pissed, not allowing him to use his music...going on TV to basically ask them if they actually listened to the words.....Anyone remember Regan's response? NADA.

The song is about the mistreatment of Vietnam vets when they came home. It's a protest song basically against our government. Reagan, his advisers and his base didn't have a clue.

i don't know how you can listen to that song and NOT get what it means.

EDIT: but then again... how many people used "every breath you take" as a wedding song.

I would guess that pretty much the only lyrics most people know, myself included, are contained in the song title.

You're gonna love this. We were at a Women's World Cup match at Giants Stadium in 1999, and they played the song "Girls" by the Beastie Boys. My brother and I looked at each other with WTF shit eating grins, and we're like, "no way they are going to play the whole song." They played the whole song.

But then again every elementary school is singing songs about banging bitches and doing drugs so yeah catchy > meaning

“Attention QANON MAGAT FASCISTS,” he tweeted. “Every time you sing ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ remember it was written by a cross-dressing, libtard, tree hugging half-Jew who HATES everything you stand for. It was you and people like you that inspired every angry word of that song.”
- Dee Snider

could you imagine the wrestling match between trump and whoever tweeted this for him

Well I wouldn't so much say they didn't have a clue as much as they felt it wouldn't matter....Regan was so popular in 1984, as was born in the USA....IMO, they just figured (probably correctly) that their supporters didn't give a crap what Bruce was singing about past "Born in the USA".

And god...SO many example of this....for fuck sake...EVERYDAY in elementary school we used to do the pledge of allegiance, then we would have to sing "this land is your land" or "America the beautiful"......And as a 1st grader, I had no idea what Woodie Guthrie was actually talking about.

US: Other countries brain wash their citizens.

Also US: Kids must pledge allegiance to the flag every morning.

Woody wrote This Land as a protest song against the establishment/government. The verses we all know were edited down. The original verses were more along the lines of telling the people this is our land, not the establishment. You can google the original verses.
