My husband has work in Utah this week, and since I’m still on winter break, I joined him with plans to ride each day. Little did I know that this part of Utah is totally
not rideable this time of year. No one would even rent me a mountain bike.
So I ended up getting a gravel bike and went for a ride yesterday. My route started with a 1300 ft climb on gravel road followed by about two miles of trail, which I mistakenly thought was gravel when I planned it. It turned out to be two miles of the worst peanut butter I’ve ever experienced. Other than that fiasco, it was an enjoyable ride.
The big Mormon church is all under construction, so I took a photo of the Capitol building instead, along with some random shots along the way. They say the air quality is the worst it’s ever been—like, in the history of the city. You can see it in one of the photos; there’s a layer of smog over the entire valley.
I then headed up to Park City to see if I could rent a fat bike to ride the higher elevation trails, but that was a no as well. There’s very little snow, so even though the air quality is better up here, the trails are still peanut butter.
So this will be my only ride in Utah—I’m going to ski for the remainder of my trip.
