Chimney Rock Conditions

Went back today to tackle the fallen tree on yellow that I reported on Monday.

But this time, I brought a Japanese friend. 🙂

As usual, cutting was easy, moving the heavy log over was the real challenge for me. Took some huffing and puffing but I got it up and out of the way.

Trails are in good, rideable condition. In addition to yellow, also did a tour thru Cromwell.

I found this odd looking e-bike parked here. Whoever owns it must have some strange ideas about mountain biking. 🤭

On the way back to Gilbride, I reconnoitered that rock roll near the stream. I still haven’t worked up the courage to try it. Oh well, one day… but not today. 😰🐓

The four of us dropped down that tonight. I stayed right and should have went left

Have you ridden with anyone that did it, or are you trying to get the courage solo?
If you see someone do it or follow them it's not bad. Drop the seat and roll it. Just remember there is a tree at the bottom....

I have never seen someone do it. Yeah the more I study it, the less intimidating it looks.

It took me a year or so just to do the roll through the fence on red but I do that one all the time now. I’m a bit of a chicken. 🐔

That was my next question, if you do that one you can do this one.

Don't rush it, it will always be there. Took me a few looks before I tried it, and as always, after hitting was like "what was I waiting for?"

But it's fine to give it time until you're 100% ready and committed w/o doubts, safer that way.

Lmao, again we are the same person! Took me longer as I didn't want to try it without a witness aka rescuer. I'm reading about the roller now and am determined to try that as well. Where is it again in relation to the river going from Gilbride?

Also, looking to ride today. Guessing conditions should be ok despite the cold snap? Or will freeze/thaw be an issue?

It’s right about here on the trail running adjacent to the Middle Brook between Gilbride and Vosseler. It’s near the shallow stream crossing.

Great work, you're in the running for top post of the year.

Only had time for some of blue, which is still pretty messy, white, red, yellow and black.
The trees must be waking up because the mud is drying out pretty fast now,
I noticed a lot of rogue trail building on blue as well as moto tracks.
Everything else I did today was pretty solid.

Kids w/ the little e-motos. Ran across one yesterday at Cromwell. He bolted. Quite young.
Yeah I’ve seen them too. Looked preteen and was riding what looked to me like a mini sized dirt bike.

I have no stomach or head for direct confrontation but I planned what to say to him if we crossed paths. My whole speech would boil down to being nice, and then informing him he could get in trouble with rangers or police if caught.

I can’t post the videos on here, but have seen way too many lately.. like how he wears the mask knowing he could be seen.

When I saw the first kid, I didn’t realize his dad/brother was with him and made a comment to the guy and he said “well, they are all e-bikes now”. 🤦🏻

Yesterday when I pulled into the ball field lot there were 3 leaving one of the driveways on Chimney Rock Road, they turned down Gilbride, I could only guess where they were going.

Yup, have done the same in the past. I haven't seen those kids I chatted w/ since, but that could just mean we've been there different times.
