Trails open for business!

This afternoon, I walked the Red, White and Blue trails (Canal Rd to S. Middlebush). Surprisingly, the trails are NOT under water and we can ride! The trails are generally a bit soft, but riding on them will not cause any damage.

But, there are several spots to watch out for:
Along the Red and White Trails, there are several spots with downed trees. Some big, some small. Be prepared to stop.
White has some wet spots/puddles. Do your best to stay to the side (when possible).
The new steel bridge- One approach is completely washed out and only rock is left. You'll most likely need to dismount if you're taking it head on.
The entrance on Blackwells Mills (people use it to ride around the stream crossing)- It is blocked by a fallen tree and lots of branches.

Enjoy!

It sounds like the place still needs sometime to dry out. I wouldn't jump the gun until Jdog gives the goahead... 😕

This is incorrect. You will widen the trail this way. Ride thru the puddle, not around!!!

I agree with the above statement to wait for jDog to give the clear. We're almost there, another week or two isn't gonna kill anyone😀

I should have clarified- The wet spot is right near the Jacques lane lot, where the trail is 15' wide. The outside foot or so (on both sides) is the best choice. And this was a length of, to be conservative, 200 ft. So riding on the outer part wouldn't really widen the trail, as you'd still be on it. But there is about a 30ft long puddle on the other side of the lot that you cannot get around.

Really guys, the trails are not swampy. The biggest issue is the downed trees.

Also, when I said the trails are "soft", I simply meant they're not hard packed, yet. I wasn't leaving any noticeable footprints during the hike.

generally I dont ride 6MR unless it's bone dry. not being a trail nazi, I just find 6MR sucks when it's soft. the clay is super slick when its wet making handling (especially cornering) dicey, which causes me to ride like a scared 8-yr old girl.

someone delete this thread before someone gets the wrong idea. its going to rain tuesday night as well; that isn't going to help things.

It gets loose when its Bone dry... Best time to ride Is like 2 days after a rain when it's been bone dry for a while. That's when it's tacky

I rode Allaire today and Sunday and it was damp but not muddy anywhere I rode.

I am suspicious of what 6mr looks like. For now i would ride spots that have a sandy base. On Sunday Allaire is the place to be for a trail work day. I am pretty sure I will be there w/ a bike trailer full of tools.

I may get out there w/ a chainsaw this week.
