6 Mile Run Conditions

Not even close. The ground is like a wet sponge.

and to build off what jeff is saying - even tho the temps are dropping below 32 sometimes overnight, it's not enough anymore to get the trails rideable right now. take it from a local - 6MR will get there but it's gonna take a little time.

I feel spoiled that we have year around riding in SJ. Looking forward to 6 Mile drying out so I can put it back in the regular rotation

The park rep at 6mr has taken note of the beating the park has taken this winter.

Riding it now is simply not fun. 40 lbs of mud caked to your bike, and a new drivetrain by spring. Awesome.

that last pic is so true i drove by canal lot in my car today seen a few guys unloading bikes out of a crew cab pickup.I pulled in told them not to ride the trails because of the conditions, they did load there bikes back up but who knows if they just drove to a diff lot,we need like a full time trail police out there.

I was out on foot on Friday AM. It was actually pretty good until about ten. After that it was SLICK!

I am sure a million yahoos will be out today mid-day rutting the place up.

I am hopeful that all my FATbike peeps will go out and roll down the ruts before they dry rock hard for the summer.

Look for a pretty serious amount of controlled burning near the Jacques lot.

Freeze-Thaw is still making for a less than ideal midday setup.

Very early after a cold night is still the best bet for now.

I gave 6M a shot early this morning. I hit the White Trail from the lot on Jacques Ln about 7:30 this morning. (I planned to get out earlier, but Happy Hour after work yesterday turned into 5 happy hours instead so I hit the snooze more than once this morning 🙂 ).

Here is the report:
White trail was super solid with the ground frozen when I first hit it. Started to loosen up around 9am when I was finishing up.

The Red Trail was good from the White all the way to the Orange (except a little slop at the concrete bridge near the boardwalk. It was here where I took a mud bath when my front tire punched through some ice right after I got off the boardwalk heading towards the concrete bridge ). There were a couple of really sloppy spots on Red between the Orange split and the power lines heading towards the Rt 27 parking lot so I decided to take the Orange trail back.

The Orange trail was also super solid. Took it back to Red and decided to give the Blue trail a shot and I headed down across the bridge.

The Blue trail was good until I crossed the long boardwalk and started to head up towards the cornfields. Then it got REALLY sloppy. At this point I decided to turn around and head back to the White trail and my car and call it a day. It was around 9 am at this point and it was becoming sloppy on the White trail as everything began to thaw.

IMO, and based on what I saw, if it freezes over night and you can get out EARLY and be done before the thaw you can ride White, the Red trail section between White and Orange, and the Orange trail, but I think a full loop is going to be out of the picture for a while. Maybe some of the more experienced guys can weigh in on this.

Here are a few pics I took from my ride this morning.

The first two pics are from the Red Trail between the Orange split and the power lines heading towards Rt 27. The third one is on the Blue Trail running along the cornfields. Figured I would throw in a pic of my muddy tights and the bike for show.

Although it looks like you didn't get too muddy. Its really best to avoid this place till someone gives an official OK. But looking at your pictures really shows it has taken a beating.

This is how single track becomes fire road.

Don't bother with this place until it's dry. It's not even close to fun like this.
