Kidney Belts

I am looking for some sort of belt that will protect not only the kidney area, but around the whole waist area. Most of the belts I see have a hard shell in the back and nothing but an elastic strap going around the sides and front. While I understand it cannot be hard all around, I am looking for something that at least has some padding on the sides and front area to help protect in case of impact. Many of the belts I see online it is hard to tell if they have any padding at all on the front or sides.

Any recommendations?

CYA shorts do a good job of protecting your tail bone and hips, but don't cover your lower back. FFT's suggestion is an interesting one, might even try it in the cooler weather.
