45North Wolvhammer Winter Boots SPD info thread (moved)

Hi,

I just got these boots and have to sell them because they run small for me. Unfortunately, by the time I decided to get them the LBS was out of stock so I had to buy online without trying them out first.

I just tried them at home. No rides on them, no cleats ever install in them. If you have cold feet these are supposed to be the ticket. More details here: http://45nrth.com/products/softgoods/wolvhammer (scroll down the page for sizing info).

$300.

Best winter shoes on the planet, HANDS DOWN!!

-Jim.

I can wait to try a pair of these. So far-for the coldest rides- I've been using my Sidi Winter GTX with 3 toe warmers on each sole, 2 pairs of socks -one wool-,neoprene booties, and hand warmers in between the top of the shoes and the booties, all taped together. It takes me 20 min just to put my shoes on😡, and I'm still cold after a while.

Wow, someone actually has worse cold feet than me! 😱
Please let us know if these work for you when you get a pair that fits. I can usually get by for a couple of hours with 1 pair of wool socks, Hand warmers in my shoes (on top of toes). I find the actual "toe warmers" to be somewhat useless.
I'll add neoprene shoe covers when it get's below 20.

Michael, these are the warmest shoes money can buy. They're designed by guys that ride the Iditabike every year. Seriously, I wear mine with summer weight socks. Yesterday I had them underwater on the beach and my feet stayed dry and warm for over 4 hours. They make any other winter shoe on the planet seem like flip flops.

With all that stuff wrapped up on yer foot, no wonder they're cold. They probably aren't getting any blood flow. Plus, does neoprene block wind? I think the hand and toe warmers need air to activate them, so if air isn't getting to them they won't heat yer dogs.

What size do you usually wear?

I'm a size 13 in all my running shoes. My Specialized MTB shoes are 46 and the run me pretty tight with light socks. My Sidi Winter GTX are 47 and they are roomy for me (enough for a thick wool sock and light sock underneath).

I used the sizing instructions from Nrth45 (draw my feet, measured) and I came out with 1mm less than 46, so I ordered that even though my gut feeling was telling me 47. My thought was these boots being so warm, I'd only need a light sock, and I have a very narrow/long foot so I try to get the smaller size I can on every shoe, otherwise my feet float around.

You can try them if you're in the area or can meet up nearby.

It's true it's all kind of packed but I don't think the blood flow is restricted too much. My feet get colder than the rest of my body all the time. My booties (Pearl Izumi MTB) block most of the wind I think, but the toe warmers I use are specific for use inside the shoe and function with little air flow. In fact, they have a warning not to be used outside shoes. Having said that, they don't get nearly as warm as they claimed temperature.

But you're right on the hand warmers being useless I think. I'll probably ditch them for tomorrow... and see how long I last 🙁

I have winter shoes and should not be spending my $ on cool bike stuff I do not need, even though they are my size:hmmm::cry:

Good luck.

That is one of the best pictures I have seen in a long time.

I have been struggling with cold feet for awhile....i just purchased a pair of the wolvehammers and they are the best winter boot on the planet. They run true to size with enough room for a winter wool sock. I have ridden in the mid 20s for 4 hours with no cold feet. They are like a snuggy for your feet. Suprisingly enough they are light for being such an aggresive boot. Build quality is top notch and worth every penny.

i'm too rocking these boot.(i saw jim's post last yrs)

i'ved been riding for over 14hrs and no cold feet.

this is absolutely worth your money.

These are available any more (looks like I'm going to be able to exchange them for 47s, which were not available before).

It's the opposite actually. I have narrow feet and they fit me like a glove width-wise, just a little tight in length. There's a thread in mtbr on these where they a lot of advice and pics on fit and comparison with the Lake's . IIRC people w wide feet were hoing w the Lake's

I agree with Jim, I wear a regular summer sock and my feet are the warmest things on me plus when I take them off my sock is not sweaty. Someone told me its like riding with UGGS.

The look bulky but I haven't experience any rubbing w/ chainstays or pedals, or any problems to clip in or out.
