Do you care about your KOMs?

I don't care. There are too many bogus KOMs. Having a Garmin 520 where you have Live KOM tracking showed me this.

I was 15 seconds in front of the leaders pace on a local KOM. 100 feet from the finish, suddenly the leader is done ? Makes no sense. Bogus.

I only care that Jeremy took the KOM on Orange at Chimney Rock that @woody and I have been tied on for the last 6 years.

I do have a few KOMs that I'm proud of and worked REALLY hard to set. I'd be sad to see those go, but the jibberish ones I can care less about. My Swamp KOM is top because I've held it for 4+ years against 1,800 people that have ridden the segment, it's even a popular TT practice for the fastest team in the state.

Absolutely care, as it took work to get to them. Strava and the KOM route makes the rides more fun, everything becomes more interesting and pushes me at times. Competition is human nature.

As for people that say it is all bull and doesn't matter, it is fun to watch their attitude change the second they get a top ten, then it is all go time.

I know why this happens. I think. I may be able to test my theory

Respect for two reasons

1- your time on that segment is awesome
2 - admitting to going out after I nabbed a solid spot on the list.

This should be a good year for the KOM list at CR. Looking forward to seeing if I can sneak up on a few of those. Next time I hit that segment, I give it a shot

.......I like to see pr's and if I snag top ten trophies, I'm happy about it...... If it's a place I consider home trails or roads, I feel I should be near the top of the leader boards. I like to see if I know anyone on the list and if I am close or higher on the list - friendly competition.

Every once in a while, if I'm out and I know there is a chance for KOM or top 10, I'll get after it and later upload the data and see if I nabbed it. It's fun, it's a challenge, it adds to the ride.

Exactly!

First thing I do when I get back is see how I did on my segments (against myself, against those I follow and the "this year" and all time lists). And yes, I get some pride from getting a top 10 (or at least top 10% lol) or having a faster time than people I know (particularly when they are guys I know are stronger than me....I was faster on at least that segment lol).

I don't really know the segments in most places (including even allaire or hartshorne). But I do know the segments on my local roads and huber. And when a known segment is coming up I will commonly hammer with the goal of a top 10 and/or PR and in that way strava encourages me to ride harder and, when I string a few of those in one ride, the ride turns into an interval workout.

IMHO, strava is a great training/ motivation tool.

Peez - I shouldnt show him the segment results from the couple murder Thursday rides last summer. You guys dragged my ass around that place and I ended up with a nice stout list of top 10s

Dibs on the 22lb fat bike cause it's only fair.

Only makes sense that I get the fatbike as I have some faster times than Jim here at hartshorne. 😱

I've never gone for anything there. I've only actually tried for KOMs in Chimney Rock and Round Valley. With Ross, John, and Jeff being Hartshorne locals I don't think any of us stand a chance.
