Mavic Crossmax SLR reviews?

Have a set of these on a newly procured bike. They are really light, but not crazy about the propriety spokes. Also have read reviews that the rear hubs have had problems. The wheel have only a few miles on them so haven't even been broken in.

The freehub has a plastic bushing rather than a bearing, so it wares out and the shifting gets all wonky. You can buy a kit that replaces it with a bearing. I just did it to a set of crossride. It was a pretty easy mod, but mine needed a new bushing. If yours are like new , personally I'd wait it out I think.

Get your hands on some handful of spokes while you can and you will be set for years... depending on how often you damage your spokes

How often do you break spokes? Also, I still have factory wheels off some of my old bikes that have hundreds of mikes with zero maintenance and no brand hubs and are still rolling. Wouldn't worry about a new wheel for a long time. Don't pay too much attention to bad reviews because those people probably suck at bikes or store their bike in a salted pond.

I break on avg 2 a year, but not usually on the same wheel
80% from sticks, the rest because I'm not an agile rider

I'll give them a try this week and will get extra spokes if I decide to keep

I think Mavic keeps/produces about 7 or so years worth of stock on spokes before they stop altogether. After that... you are screwed so get those spokes while you can.
After they stop producing, you can still get them from various bike shops but they will get pricey at that point.

so I need to order them direct from Mavic?

I have Mavic on my roadie and the 2 LBS in my area didn't stock them at all and said they had to order it direct from Mavic. Then they realized that my wheels were older than 7 or so years and I had to go hunting from various bike shops. From what I understand, not too many LBS stocks them.

@wschruba helped me out big time locating mine
