Fatbikes of NJ Gallery

That's what I was thinking. Maybe I was just tired yesterday. It just felt like I was dragging. After I went up to 12 psi, I felt like I was flying. But by then, I was nice and warmed up. I have carbon wheels so my local wrench said u certainly don't want to bottom out. I'm not exactly a 150 pound rider either. Sometimes when I hit some roots, I really feel the front end launching. I'm going out today and I'll try 8-10 psi.

I run 9 psi in the rear and 8 psi in the front on my fatboy that has 26 x 4.6" tires and I'm 185 will all my gear on. Anymore pressure than that and I feel like I'm on a pogo stick.

Word. I'm gonna knock 'me down again today. I want to go by feel. Don't even get me started with inaccuracy of of tire pressure gauges

Ah...Accugauge (Meiser), the only gauge you should buy...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GO4PZ5G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
also:
https://www.amazon.com/Meiser-Prest...&qid=1489001180&sr=8-1&keywords=meiser+pr30bx
and for those that are truly hard-core:
https://www.amazon.com/Meiser-Prest...489001180&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=meiser+pr30bx

Should you ever start to question the gauge they will re-calibrate it for a small fee ($3) for life.

Got one! I have the 30 psi, and just got the 15 psi. I read that the higher pressure gauges aren't accurate at the lower psi spectrum. Ergo, I bought the 15. So far so good. And I did get the Accu-Gage.

A wise wrench. Heed those words. I have about two seasons on mostly rocky north Jersey trails. We've played with various pressures depending on conditions and location. Lower pressures tends to result in better traction and less bounce over rough stuff, but increases rim strike risk. My buddy has cracked a few rims, but he is more aggressive and gets more air. Couple of months ago, I decided to drop pressure and knew I was pretty low. Did an unsuccessful bunny hop over a log and heard the "crack" -

It actually holds air but when the tire flexes it leaks.

R they carbon wheels or aluminum?

Carbon. If you keep high enough pressure there is no worries. But always trying to find the ideal pressure and how low you can go.

The good news, I built up a set of B+ wheels to swap in and try while I rebuild the fat rim. Can I still post in this thread?

"Ideal tire pressure." LOL. U can ask 100 people and get 100 different answers. I'm just going by feel. I want a combo of speed, traction and cushiness. I heard of guys going down to 4 psi. I wouldn't go lower then 8. I just feel like I wouldn't be moving. Just my humble opinion.

Get some faster tires. Jumbo jims 4" roll very fast. 6psi feels like 12psi on my van helga tires. Unfortunately 27.5 fat tire selection is limited
