Raritan 911: Robocop

I have heard about the Camden thing, but when I looked into it, here are some numbers I found:

Officers in 2013: 268
Officers today: 418
Crime: down 41%

It sounds like reform is being confused with defunding.

@Zaskar - no I do not believe that murder should be condoned by being in a union. Reform is fine, and something we should be doing in every aspect of life, police included. And if defunding makes sense in some areas, this's also fine. But blanket defunding based on social media will just lead to more cars on fire.
I deleted it from my original post, but yes the term defunding is foolish and should be replaced with reform

I appreciate your opinion and support. I figured this would come up here soon. I will not be addressing this topic in any way. At all. I have too much to lose and my personal interest in getting through the next 9 months and 20 days unscathed far outweighs my need to engage in political discussions on the interwebs. I know of 5 cops currently suspended for voicing opinions on social media. Granted, some of them made ridiculously stupid and insensitive comments that make us all (LEOs) look like morons. But the only way to 100% guarantee I don't end up on the sidelines is to keep my mouth shut.

you are pretty smart for your height. 😉

I love how they hold up Camden as some shining example of success. Still a very dangerous place in my opinion.

As Norm correctly pointed out, they disbanded the camden city police force and replaced it with the camden county police force with 50+% more officers on duty, so it's a complete sham to use them as an example. A more pertinent case will be to see what happens in the Seattle "autonomous zone". Good luck Seattleans:

So you can have an autonomous zone in Seattle, but if I go set up my own autonomous zone in the hills of Idaho, the Dakotas, or even VT, the Feds will come and burn me down. I'm sorry, but all of this is just a complete crock of bullshit.

A few Cops are Racists.
A few Cops are Assholes.
A lot of Cops protect and enable Racists and Assholes.
All Cops fondly remember time before Phones with Cameras.

They fondly remember a time before cell phone cameras?

I think the point is that anybody can post an heavily edited video of a police officer (sorry, I never liked the term 'cop') showing how badly he handled a peaceful protester conveniently edited to remove the part where said peaceful protester tried to run him over with his car. Once the media judge/jury/executioner is done with you a second after the video is shared on facebook, it may take a lot of time, money (probably yours as well as taxpayers') to clear your name, get your job back etc.

I started contemplating wearing a body cam full time, also a great excuse to get approval for a GoPro from the boss...or moving to CHAZ.

Also,is it just me or is there anybody else bothered by the fact that they made a show of taking down what looks like a proper city issued 'Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone' from a light pole when that is actually what they called the 'zone'. Go figure. Or why I noticed details like that?

And really smart move @Carson on not commenting on social media about this, I would also not engage in private message, text etc. sometime 'friends' can surprise you, and not in a positive way...

I'm glad the state police are starting to patrol the Parkway again - people were absolute maniacs on it the past three months.
The LED signboards always said "CAUGHT SPEEDING? MANDATORY COURT APPEARANCE" yet most of the courts were closed lol, so I don't know how effective that sign was.
Actually people have been driving crazier since going back to work in the last week. I've been working the whole time, yeah there was the random guy doing 100 mph but for the most part the few people on the road were chill. Last Monday the prkwy was a frenzy of panic driven cars. I don't understand why people go apeshit on the road...it really is a reflection of how panicked people are.

IMO there is a lot of misplaced angst out there now and knee jerk reactions. People are making poor decisions. This virus has fucked people up...but not the mtbers. We know better, because bikes.
