Whatever!! I'm going to keep riding my ebike on the trails. If they actually get it passed, patrol and enforce and I'll deal with it then. If it passes but no signs of enforcement then who cares? It'll be just another "feel good" law in NJ that actually doesn't do anything.

Anyone notice if this is really meant for road/sidewalk situations and not really trails? Seems all the bad interactions in the news are NOT trail related. Doesn’t mean it won’t be a ham fisted applies everywhere law, just wondering.

It wouldn’t be a bad thing if the Canal Cruising Geriatric E-Bikers took a bit of a hit from this. It’s bad enough having them drive in the shoulder and through buildings in cars, they bring that same energy to the bike path 😂

Pretty much the same attitude surron/moto riders have, just sayin.

So far it has been working great for them in terms of immunity, so...

I should have known better than hoping for some kind of regulation that would deal with the surrons, let it to the lawmaker to wrap in the same bundle my frail wife's converted bike with those electric dirt bikes zipping around...and how do you register it anyway?

Went for a family hike on Sunday morning at Sterling Forest. Temps were 36° and there was a mix of light snow and ice on the trails. The ground was getting soft and thawing out. As we got to the parking lot, a group of 7 eBikers were heading out. Temps were now 40° and the ground was clearly sloppy.

Been in the woods a loooong time and riding forever. I know weekend warrior types with mediocre skills. I can spot them a mile away. I’m in no way anti eBike but it has definitely introduced a whole new group of people to the woods. People with shitty riding etiquette.

Dealer has a six and you all have a ten…

If I ran into 10 emtbers 9 of them are seasoned mtbers. This idea that EMTB's have introduced a whole new class of riders is nonsense. It may have clawed back some used to ride all the time riders but the idea that it's introduced a whole new sector is ridiculous. Most everyone I ride with also rides regular bikes, if anything I'm the exception. Emtb All the time Everytime 😁

I whole heartedly disagree. MTBing is hard work. People don’t like to work hard. Now that there is a tool to make it easier, new folks are jumping on that train. The bikes are expensive. That’s why you aren’t seeing 20 year olds on them. It’s 40, 50 and 60 year olds who rode a hardtail a few times back in the 80 and 90s. At least that is my observation.

I've led a bunch of ebike group rides.. The people who ride hard on analog also ride hard on E-bikes. People who go mellow on Analog, mostly also go mellow on ebikes. I have heard it said more than once: "this is the hardest ride i've ever been on.. I thought ebiking was supposed to be easy" Ebikes can even the field to some degree, but those who hammer still hammer w/ help.

All - literally ALL - of my friends who have e-bikes have been riding mtn bikes for decades. Not years - decades. Maybe you need to get out more... 😜

Do you guys go out in adverse conditions and tear deep ruts into your local trails?

Do you have any new friends that just got into riding bikes?

I could use the same logic for myself, that all my friends with e-bikes came from regular bikes but I also don't know any new riders to the sport. I'm sure bike shops are the ones who would actually know the mix of new riders who go e-bike vs regular.

When I got into biking in my 20s I was fat and out of shape. An e-bike if affordable would have likely been my choice. And that 20-something me also thought riding wet muddy trails were cool until I knew better.
