    Crank Bros Mallet E Pedals

I’m not really all that rad of a rider but that’s what I like about them. They have a more solid and connected feel than SPDs. The downside for me can be clipping in. It isn’t a big deal really, but if the mechanism is a little bit rotated I’ll miss the entry the first time. I pretty much hit...

    Crank Bros Mallet E Pedals

Actually, I didn’t. But now I am in a weird place where I have gone back and forth between the SPDs and Crank Brothers a few times.

    For fitness sake

This is a valid point. I already get up at 4:00am for work so it’s not really an option for me. Or maybe it would be more accurate to state I am not willing to get up any earlier than I already do. This is mainly due to the time of day I would need to go to bed in order to be able to function in...

Is there a trail or feature that you just can't overcome?

I know that root well. It's demands good technique for sure. Like you, I clean it most of the time but if I'm not on my game I'll stall out of spin the rear tire and it's game over. There is a bit of a cheater line to the right, however, that leaves you at an awkward angle for the next set of roots.

    For fitness sake

I agree with you. I bought a road bike a couple years ago and ended up the fittest I have ever been. My time on the MTB was so much more enjoyable as I wasn't gassed the whole time. Slowly, I have almost stopped road riding, though. I am not a timid person at all but traffic scares the shit out...

Seriously? Now we are worried about what people think our ideology is regardless of reality? I'll use the line my mom used to use when I was a kid when I would use the excuse, "...but everyone else was doing it, too." So, if everyone else was jumping off a bridge would you do that too...

    Kid's first mtb sizing?

My son is 8 1/2 and has been on a 24” Specialized Riprock since his 7th birthday. He had pretty obviously outgrown the 20” by the time we got him on the 24”. I would say it was a touch big for him last year but he’s doing really well on it now. He’s tall for his age and is about 4’7” now.

    Tire choices?????

I had a Rekon on the rear with a DHF up front for quite a while. I think Rekon/DHR will be a really solid combo.

    Tire choices?????

I’ve got Forekasters on my trail bike right now and they are better than I thought. 2.35 rear is fast and 2.6 up front is also fast but does provide a little more grip. Things get sketchy when the trails are super dry and dusty. I may try a Dissector on the front again just to see how that...

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

As far as the logs go I am indifferent. They definitely disrupt flow. I was merely pointing out there is a trail named “Many Log Run” that now has not a single log on it. I am very glad to see an interest in improving the parks.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

I actually stopped and took this picture on Friday when I was there... Oh and I noticed this clever little cover up... So it seems that Monmouth County has some sort of plan for the parks. They are building a new Claypit parking lot. There has been more regular TM. They cut and removed all...

My understanding of mask mandates and "lockdowns" was that they were to prevent the collapse of our health care system and an unnecessary loss of life. My point is that while Bill Maher may indeed have Covid after being vaccinated, he is and will be fine. There is no reason to keep wearing...

Pinch flats-trash or save the cash?

I pinch flatted a DHF a couple years ago. I plugged the holes with bacon and let the sealant do it's thing. Honestly, I didn't think I'd make it back to the parking lot with 2 holes right next to the bead... but I did. I ended up riding that tire for several months after that and it was fine.
