Is there a trail or feature that you just can't overcome?

There is one ~10" step headed up Buttermilk Valley from the lot in Hartshorne that is about halfway up the climb. It has been undercut over the years, so it offers no help if you roll into it.

It is not a difficult climb objectively, but I usually wind up ~85-90% heart rate by the time I get to that step, so if I'm not on point with the balance, I usually whack it and stall out. I clean it ~75% of the time when I'm riding regularly there.

I can't say very much I see on the trails makes me say, "no way" (as in, won't ride, not can't). Does that make me cautious/aware of my limitations, or something else?

I know that root well. It's demands good technique for sure. Like you, I clean it most of the time but if I'm not on my game I'll stall out of spin the rear tire and it's game over. There is a bit of a cheater line to the right, however, that leaves you at an awkward angle for the next set of roots.

Yes- Sourlands

there are those couple of rocks right at the trailhead. it is uphill, and kinda weird layout.
I always warn the first timers if they can't make it over them, it is going to be a long day!

I always thought the roots past that to the intersection with maple flats was harder than those 2 rocks
