Is there a trail or feature that you just can't overcome?

There’s a flat wooden bridge with a dog leg at Allaire. One day last year I came into it with a bit of speed, it was wet and I ate shit. It was like a cheese grater on my face. I always roll that bridge slow now whether it’s wet or dry.

For me, overthinking/worrying messes me up sometimes. There's a few climbs at harts I struggled with where I just have to remind myself "don't think, just pedal." Or There's been times I've followed people (normally jklett) into some sketchiness I wasn't prepared for; I just say fuck it, try to stay loose and go with it. More likely to get hurt worrying and hesitating.

If it's wet, send it. Hurts less in the duff 🙂

At Stevens there’s the big rock with a sketchy notch on Steve’s technical. I’ve rolled up it and ridden down it but never completed it. With all the stone cold killers sessioning it on the group ride, a full send was the only option. Courage can come from anywhere.
There’s moves I’ve made 5 years ago that I won’t touch now, and stuff I struggled on that’s routine. Humans are weird.

side note, I fell off the Turtle at mahlon so hard I didn’t breathe right for weeks. I’ll ride the sucker still , but my body remembers that!

@Soundguy do dh racers still walk the course on Saturday evenings? Patty and I always did and check for B lines to gain that half a second then rolled them on race day practice?

I slow rolled it two times and stopped at each tech section to scout lines. Then went back up and rode with a LITTLE speed to see if the lines were feasible. Then gradually cranked up the heat...literally. It was 95 degrees so after a couple of moderate efforts I decided to gather my thoughts and try a full send in the morning. I think I’ll feel more confident when I’m not having a heat stroke. Also riding a loaner fork so bike feels weird. Too much in my head...

Clear your mind. Glory is forever. Chicks dig scars. The body doesn’t remember pain. All that stuff.

disclaimer: I also highly recommend talking to an actual grownup.

Ok... I'll make a suggestion that'll be good for everyone.

Video it.

Seriously.

One: it will provide endless entertainment for all of us. But also....

Two: you'll literally SEE what it is you're doing and what you need to correct. Are you too far forward or back on the bike? Are you panicking and gripping the brakes too hard? Etc etc.

Not alone. There's 1 massive log feature in Belmont (Philly) that I only remember doing once, either direction. It's a slight climb 1 direction, the descent direction has another log about 15-20ft prior. I've followed other riders, usually @KenS, and try to visualize their line and chicken out before fully committing. Also seen many fail terribly, so that is what sticks in my head.

As for a trail, The Monster climb in Wiss, prior to the recent sanitation due to it being unsustainable. I probably cleaned 1 for every 10 attempts. Haven't been there since the completion of the project.
I've seen you make monster way more than 1 out of 10!
