I have a 2017 F150 with the 2.7 EcoBoost and it's been great. I've been shopping for a replacement, mostly looking at mid-sized trucks (Tacoma, Colorado, Ranger). I keep coming back to the F150 for several reasons: 1) Don't want a 5' bed - I like being able to toss any of my bikes in the back with the gate closed. 2) The gas mileage of the small trucks is no better. 3) Aluminum body. I see many, many pickups around Sussex County with horrible body rust. Mine looks great, barely has a door ding and I used it as a work truck and it was never garaged. It's also around 600lbs lighter than the previous steel version. I had a 2014 previously and the difference was very noticeable. The current F150 weight is not too far off that of the smaller trucks.
I'm surprised at the performance of the 2.7 motor. It never feels under powered, but I'm not pulling an RV. I've noticed that dealers are starting to deal again. You can easily get $3-4k off the sticker price. Lightning is tempting, but not at the current prices. Not good for long-haul towing either.
