Starts this Saturday, July 4th, with a short time trial. Looks like the stars have aligned to have more than 2 GC contenders this year with Froome, Contador, Nibali and Quintana with some outsiders in Peraud and Bardet. Most look to be on form and I think Nibali was sand bagging at Dauphine. Contador may be able to pull the Giro/Tour double, which will be a first for this generation. Oh yeah, Tejay too, but meh, how much can you expect from someone named Tejay?
In non-GC, even though Cavendish will say that he wishes to go head-to-head with Kittel and Bouhanni at least limited for the first few days, we will likely see Cavendish take over sole place third place for most tour wins and possibly tie or unseat Hinault. Sure you have Greipel, Sagan, Degenkolb, Matthews and Swift around but none can match Cavendish in a drag race and he is on excellent form this year and I will be rooting for the little guy. Again, history in the making possible.
Rank Name Country Wins[5]
1 Eddy Merckx
Belgium 34
2 Bernard Hinault
France 28
3 Mark Cavendish
United Kingdom 25
André Leducq
France 25
