24/31: I had a goal today to do two big climbs up here for my loop. The first one called tower rd and the second called narrow notch. Legs were hurting at the start but quickly loosened up and by the time I made it to the first climb they were ready to go. I wish I had taken a picture at one point on the tower road climb because I don’t think I’ve ever done anything as steep. The first 11.5 miles provided 1900ft. After that it was just rolling hills back to the house.

About 3/4 of the way up narrow notch there is a clearing where you can see across to tower mountain and the saddle that I had just rode over.

After dinner last night we drove to the top of mt. Utsayantha (tower mtn). This is a popular launch for hang gliders and the village below is Stamford

Day 23 riding. Was up at 3:30am to get my wife into Lake Placid to start her 5:30am volunteer shift as a lifeguard for the swim portion of IM140.6. Watched the pros start then headed to the Lussi and Logger Trails 1st, then to Craig Woods, and back into town. The trails of Lussi and Logger all have Caddyshack reference names. Funny part was I could hear the Ironman DJ playing Kenny Loggins "I'm Alright...." in the woods while riding. Crossed paths with some runners who were supporting friends in the IM. They had no idea where they were. It was awesome to tell them the trail they were on is Judge Smails and that intersects with Rat Farts.

24/31 - Had a gravel ride queued up for this morning but I didn't get out as early as I had originally planned, decided not to push it too far or too hard today, hoping that will pay off as the week goes on. Still managed to get back before the heat was really cranked up so I think the worst of the hot 31/31 rides is behind me.

24/31: I must be getting desperate for variety, as. I thought it was a good idea to attempt Tiger's Blood, on perhaps the hottest day of the year. Eff that. Don't know why I even bother, way above my pay grade. Kudos to anyone skilled enough to ride that shit. Big shout out to Connor at Gears & Grinds for the loaner tire. Woke up to a puncture that wouldn't seal, bacon strips didn't work, and I couldn't find my Stan's dart tool.

24/31 Brother ride
Today I rode with 2 of my oldest friends, at least 34 years. They have been by my side through everything from my wedding and through my latest ordeal. There are 2 phone numbers that I can call upon any time I need them. So what do I do in return? I make them ride with me on a 100 degree day…..I suck.

Based on the forecast I decided to skip the big group road ride and head to the gravel trails with my newly repaired bike and test it out. Brought along 2 friends and we did some of the Morris Greenway and then CT. It actually didn’t feel too bad out but we were mostly in the shade for 90% of the ride. Anytime we had sun it was blazing hot.

Ride was great and legs are sore from yesterdays ride at Nassau but not terrible. Halfway thru the ride my rear derailleur acted up AGAIN so now I will just get it replaced if I can get one sooner than later. Of course this all happens while I am off this coming week and the road bike is also in the shop. Ugh. Guess the MTB will get out to more use this coming week after all.

We decided to finish up before the bad heat hit and then had a nice cool off and proper hydration poolside.

Always best to finish a MTBNJ/Halters/JORBA challenge on a MTB only
