2024 edition 31/31

No pics for today, sorry. Got home from work scooted out for my ride and got home, showered and changed to meet a friend for dinners and (non alcoholic for me) beers. Thai Mango salad was banger.

2:02 Crowd Sourced TM Works
Or not.

Trimming isn't a want, its a need in the parks I ride at between June and August. While I am the JORBA chapter lead of Baldpate, Mercer makes it really hard to make a difference there (I am approved to trim and do other work, however I can't lead a group) and I largely stopped trimming there sometime last year in lieu of working at my main TM spot, nesh. This year I decided I wanted to open up what the locals call the local epic, Washington Xing, Baldpate, Greenway, Water Co., which is a great ride for the fall months. Heavy trimming and tree removal at waco and greenway has paid off (others are helping at waco too) and I started some trimming at Baldpate in late June/early July. The park is also chipping in but they never make make it to the north side, which is where I got shredded. Had one of those "f this shit" moments but I'll be back out there soon enough.

28/31 - The Finale

Well that’s a wrap! While I didn’t make the 31/31 due to personal reasons I don’t want to go into here, I did my best to keep up with it despite easily bailing on the whole thing.

Last night I was 100% sure I wasn’t going to be able to ride today due to the forecast I didn’t even stage my bike or kit last night. But just in case I set my alarm for 5:45 so I could check the radar and despite some damp roads it looked clear. Decided the gravel bike and Columbia trail was the best safe option again. It was nice being on the trail pretty much alone but it wasn’t fun eating spider webs for breakfast.

Did my usual turn around and made I back just as it started drizzling. Win.

Dating back to the last few days of June I would have had 33 days in a row if I didn’t miss 3 days in July ( one day was only 40 minutes) I would have 100% made it to ride the hour those missed days as I was feeling pretty good considering the challenge if riding every day.

While I didn’t ride my MTB once due to it being on the DL I did mix in the gravel rides for some actual dirt. I also did some longer road rides and learned how to manage active recovery much better during a challenge like this.

Some stats for the Month:

789.2 miles
47h 22m ride time
(also walked the dog 33 miles/12.5 hours)
1 flat tire
1 saddle sore
Did 2 100k rides on the same weekend
Set a PR for most miles in a week (225)
PR for most days in a row ( 13 then 16)
Lost 3.5 lbs

Looking forward to a few days off so I can do the shop club challenge of 100 miles/2 days this weekend. Then it’s back on the MTB sooner than later now that I have new wheels all set.

Congrats to all the 31/31-ers !
