2025 5 NYC Boro Bike Tour

It’s one of the few rides you can do on a unicycle and not be the weirdo.

True story;

Circa 2011 Death Ride---Tour of the Cali Alps

123 miles 15,000 vf 2k+ riders

Besides the scream of ambulances all afternoon, I was haunted by a set of 23mm tracks that led straight through a dirt parking lot on the outside of a curved high speed descent, ending at a bouldered drop off of 288 feet. The hills are 3k up and down.

Halfway through, there was a uni on one of the descents, moving at a sedate pace. Several roadies whizzed around him, chaos attendant. Miracle that no one died. I proceeded to proceed.

Pretty sure it's a non-profit to support education. In comparison, the NY Marathon is over $300 to enter. I've been volunteering at their Twin lights ride at Sandy Hook the past few years. Will be near my mom's and marshalling the Dumbo section. The ride is chill with lots of waiting around we especially for later groups. 7am-5pm is my shift and will be riding a Makino if anyone is looking.

curious, for this five borough tour, where people from NJ usually park? how crowded is path train from jersey city during this event? does PATH allow bike during this time?

I would think you can take the Staten Island ferry, or maybe park in Weehawken and take the NY waterway ferry over.

Fun ride today. First timer doing five boro on the mountain bike (Pivot). Downside was rain on BQE, but it was fun watching bikers get sloppy on the cobblestone in Brooklyn.
You probably passed me in Greenpoint Brooklyn, I was volunteering at an intersection helping pedestrians cross. Worst place to stop riders at the top of a hill. What made it worse was a brewery giving beer shots out half way up the hill. Grumpy locals cursing at the tour and riders who don't think they need to stop made it more chaotic. Don't think I'll be doing this again...

I'm amazed nobody has died on that ride. Most of the routes pass 1/4 mile from my house. With routes of various lengths coming together, you have fit people finishing their centuries going 20+ mph mixed with randos on Walmart bikes going 7mph or even walking. Every single one of them seems unaware that the roads - many of which are narrow w/o shoulders - are not closed and they never bother to put up any signage in advance to warn the locals. It's mayhem.

Thanks for volunteering! I passed by a few bars that had tons of riders at. I wondered what was going on then a friend of mine said people go on this tour for many different reasons.

There was a guy in mid town that I passed at an intersection that was yelling at a cop on why he should be able to walk… never a dull moment for sure.

This is 100% true.

I know people who have done the Twin Lights ride that voice their concerns about the routes but they don’t listen.
