Tomatoes look like they put everything into growing. There are tomatoes in there, just not ripe yet. Too much cow shit?

Picked some snap peas. I hadn't gone out to get them in a few days, so I threw out just as many that got too big. There won't be many more. Plants look ratty with few new blooms.

Pic of the squash vines. Lots of blooms. A couple of spaghettis coming on.

I like these Early Long Purple Eggplants. Good producers. Reliable.

Red bell peppers are doing well. There are a bucket load on this one plant.

Mine are also bolting with the heat and moisture. I finally spotted some weeds in your garden, you're slacking... You get some incredible yields and probably the cleanest beds as well. Looks great again

I weeded the beds three times, but there are still some weeds. They grow fast. Slacking on the weeds between the beds. With everything else, it is almost impossible to keep up.

Here's the stuff from yesterday.

Picked some more blueberries. There aren't many left now.

Picked another bunch of carrots. Left one row but need to get them soon.

Hosed off.
IMG_9104.jpg

There were these black swallowtail butterfly larvae on the carrot greens. Didn't even make a dent. I left them in the mulch to fend for themselves with the birds.
IMG_9100.jpg

A few beets were ready. Picked 4.

IMG_9112.jpg

The red onions were done a week ago. Tops fell over and were turning brown. Seemed early and the bulbs didn't get very big. Took them all.

The Spanish white onions are still going strong. There are close to 50 in that space!

So after the deer have annihilated the hosta in the frontyard, the local rabbit population has joined the party in the backyard.

Bees are all over the butterfly bush, lavender and now the pumpkin.

That's just deer salad you're growing, hostas never grew till we put up a fence in the backyard, now they need dividing and moving every year so maybe deer food wasn't so bad...PXL_20250720_162249574.MP.jpg

The deer used to eat the backyard plants as well, but it's now fenced on 3 sides. The neighbor also re-arranged his fence so there isn't a direct path into any of the adjacent yards anymore either. Now they just stroll everyone's front yards chomping away at whatever they like.

Picked these Shikou eggplants, a zuch, some cherries, and a rogue strawberry.

Having some trouble keeping the squash vines inside the fence. Lots of flowers.

Picked the first "greenhouse" cuke I'm growing on a screened deck. Variety is Mojito. Harvest to table in less than 10 minutes. Good flavor.

Still getting cherry matoes.

For some reason, zucchini were a fail this year. Only got a few. Half the plants died early and the rest looked sickly and did not produce. I did plant different varieties this year, so maybe that or the weather or maybe reasons. This and the epic battle with the vole earlier this year are now just be something to worry about next year.

Was just discussing this with @Roadie - same here.
cruising right along and boom, gone, ded.
Last week, I saw a pile of wilted zucchini plants someone had pulled from their garden and put out by the road. Thought, yeah, something ain't right in zucchini land this year.

May not be a good squash year…. Tromboncino zucchini plant in the foreground was doing great a couple of days ago. Now it’s just about gone. There was another one next to it that quit last week. We have one more one the other side of the garden and will see if that makes it. The Cucuzza squash on the other side of the trellis seems to be doing ok for now. Last year we had a squash tunnel there. Not happening this year

Me also, there's something going on this year. Going to check the stems this weekend for bugs or fungus. Anyone else here have stunted plants which are dying off early?

I stopped planting zuc because i would always get the squash vine borers. I know there is a specific planting time to avoid them and maybe the wet weather impacted that this year?

I've seen borers too, along with pests (cucumber beetles, squash bugs) and disease but, normally, most plants survive and keep producing.

I usually do eight plants. Half zuch and half yellow summer squash. I've noticed the summer squash is a little more resistant to disease than the zuchs.

I may lose one or two plants to borers, disease, whatever, but still get 30 - 40 fruits in the season. This year was different. Didn't see any evidence of borers. There was some damage from cuke beetles. Half the plants wilted and died early. The rest look diseased and are not producing. I'm not sure what is happening. Could be insect, fungal, weather, etc?
