45North Wolvhammer Winter Boots SPD info thread (moved)

The fat vortex is pulling me in...............I am losing control.

My other half is encouraging me to huck myself off some larger gaps/drops this year.

She wants me to work on my list of tricks to style off jumps.

Yet I am investing in lycra and SPD shoes.........

😕

I do not know what is going on, but it is magical.

20 mile recovery ride on the pig tonight.........the 4.8's were fun, but slow. I am only worried about the ability of the Beargrease to survive under my riding style. Not so sure how carbon will play with a 195lb guy riding the snot out of it.

Maybe I should update my other thread:hmmm:

Info I completely forgot to share...

The Wolvhammer sole is much thicker than a summer shoe, I had to raise my saddle a tad to compensate.

Lake

I have the Lake MXZ303's and my toes have been cold lately. I am a 43 in those and ususally a size 9. I might be interested in the Wolvhammers.

Goodvibe,

Saturday I rode 15 miles in 1:45 hours on the Patriot's Path west out of Speedwell Lake parking lot at 8am. The average temperature was 14 degrees Farenheit, so I imagine it was around 9 or 10 degrees at the start, with plenty of ice everywhere off the trail.

When I finished and took my Lakes, which are about a year old from Brands, and socks off, my toes were red and cold, but I didn't feel uncomfortable while riding. I would like to try some longer distance and maybe toewarmers before I drop $300-$400 on the Wolvhammers, because I have never felt cold toes before with the Lakes.

Gock, I have been using the lakes for years, but lately, my toes have been a little chilly, even with toe warmers.

These shoes are incredible. Rode today in dress socks for s&g's, my feet were oh so comfy for three hours. What a good call, thanks everyone!

Btw, I am a size 10 normally and went with a 44

I rode for 3 hrs Saturday. temps were about 18 when we started and my feet were dry and warm. I also use a regular riding sock same as I wear in the summer. I do agree with John bauman, the zipper is tricky at times but will probably get better with time. Spend the money and you will be done with cold feet.

Put a little bit of light lube in the zipper mech every once in a while, it helps keep it smooth. Also, pay attention to the angle of your foot when you zip them up, pointing your toes down lines it up nicely.
