6 Mile Run Conditions

I rode thursday afternoon... wheels down around 3:00pm. Rode from canal to 27 lot and back (blue - orange - red out, red straight back). Happy to say it pretty good 96%.
Blue was mostly dry.
Orange dry except it was crusty on trail edges.
Red had a few damp spots, some still frozen, nothing was “muddy” but had a few of lightly thawed top-layer sections.
Some of the grassy area😛owerline crossings that were exposed to direct light were a little soft, but frozen underneath.
There were some NASTY rutted sections from the selfish mud dwellers. They Were mostly frozen but such a mess to traverse.
I don’t know what Mother Nature dumped on them yesterday (assuming just a dusting), but a morning rode before the storm today should be fine.

Be sure to tell your friend to ride thru the middle of the mud bogs, instead of widening the trails. It’s better for their bike.
Also, while doing so, make sure they blast Mötley Crüe for everyone else’s enjoyment, because Tommy Lee is a drum God, even tho his real name is Bass.
Finally, make them clear out those shutdown go-arounds, whoever shut them down doesn’t know how fun it is to ride closed trails.

While they’re at it, have’m join JORBA.

I braved the cold and rode blue to the short section of red that connects to white and back to the Canal lot on the abandoned section of red. It's frozen solid. There is lots of ice. The place will be a complete mess when it warms up.

I was afraid if this - is it rideable or is it like mini-glaciers the whole way?

The field section of blue near the canal lot is eroded and pretty much solid ice. The wooded section of blue wasn't too bad. The sections near the farm fields were as the picture shows. The white trail had 1 section where water was still flowing down the trail. There was a second section on white that was flooded several inches deep and mostly frozen.

Overall it is mostly rideable. Studded tires might be a good idea? My trail bike has a 2.5 DHF on the front and a 2.4 High Roller 2 on the back. Even though the trails are frozen I found traction to be somewhat lacking even where there wasn't visible ice. I couldn't figure out why. Maybe it was the loose pebbles on top of the completely frozen solid layer underneath? Or maybe there was so much water in the soil when it froze that it was just more slippery than it looked? I don't know.

I took it pretty easy to prevent any unplanned dismounts. I was literally the only nut job in the park.

EDITED: My traction issues in the "dry" sections were due to the frozen base with loose "kitty litter" on top. It has been over 12 months since I have ridden a trail in this condition due to how much rain we have had this year. Bad form on my part.

I rode this morning from the 27 lot to the canal and back (red-orange-Red-blue-Red-White-Red, 10a-12n). Most everything was still frozen this morning with the exception of a couple spots that never dry.
I did notice spots softening a bit on the way back and had to walk a couple of the bogs as the temps go up along with the fiery thing in the sky.
I think this afternoon is going to be a muddy disaster... and after the rain tonight, inrideable until the next solid freeze.

P.s. nice bridge dedication stone!

I mean at this point, what even the fun of riding there for now??

What a mess with the ruts UGH!

Who was Gloria? Nice bridge, I have not been there in 6 months where is it located.

There are 2 sweet berms on a downhill leading into that bridge where you can carry some speed. Problem is, if you over steer it, you can wind up in the stream.

I rode from the Jaques Ln lot from 9-10:30. Did a loop with Red Blue and White. While it was rutted in some places, most of the higher trails were frozen and fairly good shape.

Gonna be a mess after the rain and tomorrow and Thu. Any have an idea on whether it might freeze again by Saturday?

Bump - looking ahead at the forecast for the rest of the week with the thought of bringing the NICA team to 6 mile this Saturday afternoon... is it possible it will be frozen and ok to ride?
