6 Mile Run Conditions

Thank you. Where do you park if you don’t have a permit?
Hmmm, I’m local and just pedal over. Not really destination trails, but Johnson Park by the river has ample parking. You can also access the D&R towpath from there at Landing Lane.

There’s also a small lot on Road 3, adjacent to the trails, but sometimes it’s chained.

You could also park over at the soccer fields at Clif Prescod Ln. and ride over.

Enter Johnsons Park through the Cedar Ln entrance. Park at the first lot on the right. Ride back up to the entrance. Trailhead is at the northern corner of the intersection.

Maybe somebody has a better suggestion. I always ride in from home.

I ride the Rutgers Ecological Preserve a lot (it's a very short drive from home on days I'm limited on time). I always park here and it's never been full/chained off. As others have said it doesn't get as muddy as 6MR so it's typically a better ride without leaving damage (though some areas DO get really wet but if you learn the trails it's easy to avoid those spots).

Trail Report: Rideable without causing damage. If it stays dry and windy I suspect it will get better in the next couple of days. There’s a couple of soft spots in the shade. The trails are a bit damaged from the winter (grooved and not as smooth). The bridge on red coming from the soccer fields is toast. It’s probably a 12’ gap from bank to bank. I think a much wider bridge than that would future proof this crossing. I suppose an ambitious culvert at the bottom of the ravine would be another solution too. Please post any and all solutions as I’d like to contribute.

This bridge is a major hazzard.

The bridge is totally failing and will likely crumble to pieces in the coming weeks. No Joke.

I went out this am to check it out. I'll be cutting in a reroute and building a new bridge very shortly.

FOR THE TIME BEING. . I would avoid the 27 lot. Please consider parking on Jacques Lane. This lot is now referred to by the park as "the mtbers lot" so we might as well embrace that.

thank you for the info jdog. Do you know how the conditions are today? suitable to go out AM tomorrow?

If you live close by I guess it could not hurt to check out but be prepared to leave disappointed. Considering the cool temps and the fact CNJ got showered on this week, including sprinkles today, it must be crappy.

New line was built today.. this avoids the failing bridge that was shown before.

New bridge was built using a LOT of recycled material.

This is on the 27 side

Check it out and let us know what you think.
