6 Mile Run Conditions

Got to the canal lot at the ass crack of dawn. Didn’t see another soul until I returned to my car at 9ish. By then, trails were still frozen solid.

Conditions pretty good. Counted only a handful of notable puddles over the course of red, white and orange. Alll in the expect spots. Rutting was minimal.

Two trees down both along red where it runs parallel with orange.

One was pretty big.

Finally, saw signs of this guy rutting up white. Left his tracks all over the place. Freeze/thaw motherfucker! He must’ve missed Jay’s post from a couple weeks ago. What a son of a bitch.

Not sure why these were painted; on red near 27. The small one has been there for a long time, the big one needs to go (or be built up).

This one was in between, is rideable but a nuisance

Quick Christmas morning ride. Most of the trails frozen popcorn after the rain and flash freeze. Slow going and little sketchy. Concrete bridge is blocked by branches and river flowing around with ice on rocks

Rode it all this am. Patches of ice and lots of ruts, particularly on the single track sections of blue. Few trees down, also mainly on blue.

This is blocking the trail near the canal lot where blue transitions from open fields into the wooded section.

This one is closer to the steel bridge. Because if it’s height and oblique angle, it’s gonna be harder to hop over.

And lots of frozen ruts. Glad I brought a FS today. These will have softened up by now, I’ll bet.

Biggest tree down was on red where it runs parallel to orange along the river.

Concrete bridge was rideable. Some debris clogging the upstream side.

Was out by 10 just as the sun was getting high enough to start thawing things out. Probably pretty shitty by now. 🙂

I think that most people who ride in these conditions don’t even think twice about it. Maybe I’ll get lucky and sell them a new drive train
Don't believe in luck, fortune aids the brave. You should design a device buried in the ground just enough that when the rear wheel sinks deep enough in the mud an actuator strikes the derailleur with enough force to break it...too much?

There were plenty of sticks this morning to take out your derailleur :

So I'm split on clearing those trees while it is a slopfest. I'd like to knock them out, but people shouldnt be riding.
I've wondered about that too, I suspect they don't stop most people from riding there. This tree is on blue as you first enter the woods from the canal lot. I wonder how many people this tree would stop after they have ridden thru the mud/ruts in the field? I remove the trees that I can with my folding saw.

Here’s my issue, if it isn’t cleared, go-around will form, when it’s wet, which means they will burn in a wider trail…

And just for fun let’s all pretend that this just fixes itself and is never an issue that requires attention.

Can’t wait for the memes and Instagram posts that come out about this because they are always so creative 🙄

solid logic. Will attempt a Saturday morning drive and hike.

Hey Patrick, I can help out Sat morning, earlier the better for me. DM me if you need some assistance. Happy to help.

By my last count there are 4 trees on blue, 1 on red near orange and 1 on red extension.
