6 Mile Run Conditions

there were a couple cars with racks in the canal lot today...was going to say something to the one guy gearing up, but because I am the Grinch, I likely woulda ended up punching the dude, so I just rode back to the tow path. I was just stopping in the lot for the porto-john.

I rarely engage with people when i'm out doing TM, but they are usually total kooks.

I always think about how they are likely double fast wearing out their drivetrains, suspension and brakes.

I was amazed to see not one car in the canal lot @ 1:48 pm today. Did someone barbwire the entrance trail? Landmines?? Well done!

Current six mile run conditions in case anyone was wondering!

Yes it is. I just rode it. You have to go out before the sun gets on it. It could be 25 and direct sun will thaw the fields to a bog-like mudfest.

But when it’s like this, it’s like riding concrete. Feels like a skatepark made of dirt.

this dry wind will help tremendously. weekend should be great.

Went today, and the trails are as bad as I have ever seen them. The blue trail is pretty much demolished.. one part has tracks that look like something motorized went through. I walked a bunch of sections so as not to make it worse. The upper part of 27 side was ok and still frozen when I started. The entire blue section was already thawed out and slippery peanut butter by the time I got there. I contemplated biking back on the road to the 27 lot but didn't have the energy to don't he extra miles. I took red back and walked the really bogged out sections. Red was in far better shape however.
The very last picture was the newer blue section we cut in with Jay in October, it's absolutely demolished. Some of the ruts are 8"deep. I won't be riding 6 mile anytime soon...I suggest we all sign up for trail maintenance with @jdog and pitch in fixing this disaster this spring..

@Dajerseyrat

Thanks for the post.

What time were you wheels down?
I did get there late like 1030 but it was pretty cold still. Regardless, the ruts would have just been frozen ruts as opposed to semi frozen ruts. I walked out into the weeds on those sections to avoid further damage. I could not avoid all the mud completely and did hear the sirens of the puddle police chasing me on my return trip..

This looks like something motorized..Doesnt resemble a bike tire..

Not picking on you so don’t take this personally- this is exactly what i said in my post saying to get out before the sun is up. Doesn’t matter how cold it is unless it’s cloudy and in the teens. If the sun gets up it thaws. Early bird gets the worm.

Glad you got to experience it first-hand. That’s usually what it takes to get people to get out when they should.

And now you also know why I bitch about this shit. We aren’t puddle police. It looks terrible. And... My morning tomorrow is going to be filled with fighting all these ruts while I ride as they freeze up overnight. And that is a bummer.

Looks like I’m heading to the Sourlands instead. Probably not so many ruts. Rocks scare people away.

Yeah, lesson learned on this freezing thaw cycle. The sun has a major impact on it.
