Alpine Trial at Diablo

I think that it is the Alpine trail that has the big wooden walls for burms. My questions is how do you guys get so high up the wall? I make it up to like the first 2 feet. Is it more a go strait at it or is it more speed I need?

Let it flow. It will come. The more comfortable you get each time the faster you can come in and go high and fly off the wall. Get the technique and feel down then go for the speed.

Then you can do stupid things with your friends like pass each other going low on the dirt berm and high on the wall. It's all fun till someone gets hurt. 😀

Not really, its a flatter entry than the first; but das wall, total different story.

Could someone tell me what I need to do to keep my rear wheel down? Whenever I go off a jump at diablo, my rear end pulls up more than I can pull up on the front end. I do keep my weight down in the rear, but always feels like I am going over the handlebars. Could it be me just getting used to the bike?

Keep your weight over your rear wheel more when you go off the jump. YOu may be too far forward or pushing the fron tend down too much when you take off. At first, try to keep your weight centered and go off the jump and make both wheels level. You don't want to be heavy on the rear unless it is a really flat landing. When you get more comfortable, you will want the front wheel lower to nose into landings.

Apox. how high is your seat post? What bike?

stb: Thanks for that. I'll see how it works.

fft: I was renting the Jamis Dakar Bam 2 at Diablo and had the seat all the way down.

I guess keep practicing, jumping is like riding a bike, once you pick it up - it will stay with you forever. Also, small kicker will pop your rear tire a bit more than larger ones - so if your on the begginer trails with waist high ramps a little "buck" should be expected. Fully loading the suspension on the face of the bigger guys will help you balance yourself in the air.
