Another Cyclist Murdered

this was my reaction too, i must have missed that one going through.
Wait, Concealed carry is legal in NJ? To the general public with adequate background check of course.
More than just a background check. There is a mental screening and you need to prove efficiency and proper handling of said fire arm. Most states you do not need to comply with the extra steps - but I am in favor of the added due diligence.

I'm in agreement with the said screening process. I'm 100% for 2A but doing so responsibly.

My buddy got it on the first day, recall it was in September. Though I question the screening process as he's one crazy drunk who's always quoting conspiracy theories. Kinda scares me knowing he's got that privilege...

If he is so horrible, why is he your buddy? Should we be suspicious of you as well?

Best thing said so far on this topic is You don’t want to draw.

If you must carry, keep it secured on the bike. Well secured. One more step to stop and make sure you need it.

We should've been carrying at Allaire last month. That crazy old guy was scaring me.

Police bike patrol are there mostly has a deterrent. Criminals are cowards and will always look for easy victims that can't fight back. You so much as flash a gun and they'll run away. This is why places with signs that say they don't allow firearms will have the opposite effect and attract criminals with guns because they know they'll have the advantage of being the only ones who are armed.

While I agree, what is your stance on State issued drivers licenses and the operation of an automobile as well as power tools? Getting in a car and driving or being near a road is the most dangerous thing 99.9% of us do daily. There is a solid percentage of people that operate these items that are clearly a safety issue to themselves and others.

As for CC, the first step is to remove yourself from the situation which the bike will better yourself in (most situations). CC doesn’t mean people can be vigilantes or a citizen officer. The first person that uses the law is going to get prosecuted so heavily it does not matter if they were in the right/wrong.

Why is it okay to heavily police one item (firearms) and not another as noted?
I think that most people that drive are inadequately trained. The system here for driving is get a license and get good through experience, doesn’t matter how many accidents you cause along the way. We give anyone a drivers license here. We should do it like some European countries where the process is much more rigorous. And as someone that likes to drive, I’d say that it’s pretty heavily policed here.

You can’t compare firearms to driving because driving isn’t a political issue. Firearms are like abortion, gay marriage, etc., a political dividing point. I never thought I’d see CC here in NJ. Why give the other side more ammo (no pun intended)? If your going to carry, be smart about it, go above and beyond, don’t be overly cavalier.

Yes, it's been passed. Murphy of course then tried to backdoor a bunch of absurd restrictions (referred to as the Carry Killer law) on where you could carry, but it was blocked by the NJ Supreme Court a couple weeks ago after a case was filed by the ANJRPC.

somehow i missed that this was even going anywhere, i have some researching to do.

It’s in transit on the bike the same as if I’m driving to the range with it- in its case in the back.
Sorry I'm confused by your posts. We're talking about the concealed carry of a loaded firearm, not a cased firearm being taken to the range.

I agree with your points. The only thing I have to add is the 2nd Amendment is part of the US Constitution. It’s a Civil Right. Driving, abortion, and gay marriage are not called out the same way in our constitution, which I believe was very deliberately and well written. Driving is certainly not a right, and abortion and gay marriage are covered by other parts of the constitution. I understand why the 2nd Amendment is controversial but if the the 1st Amendment, 4th Amendment, or any other amendment were so openly crapped on, it just wouldn’t be tolerated.

There is such a huge misconception around the 2nd Amendment. As was stated above, firearms aren’t a casual means of regular persuasion. They aren’t a tool for vigilantes, wanna-be cops, or to intimidate that guy who cut you off in traffic. They are a last resort. Full stop. Displaying a firearm is literally the last thing that happens before someone’s life could change permanently, or end, on both sides of the encounter. Most people of the mindset to own or legally carry a firearm look to avoid dangerous places or potential conflict in the first place. Seems anti-2A groups want to paint a picture of chaos in the streets but that just isn’t reality.
