Anyone going to the Lake Placid world cup?

Debut year for DH at our closest world cup destination since Windham in, 2012? My son and I are looking to hit this or MSA, but we've been to MSA twice (and Snowshoe, RIP), and so Lake Placid being new, in the US and closer makes me want to go, but I'm not thrilled about how it won't have that mountain feel with DH and XC miles apart.

Anyone booked a room? Any advice on where to stay? I can't find much useful info out there.

Been to Lake Placid area many times. Not planning to attend the WC, but do have some advice on where to stay. Several hotels along Main St. in downtown L.P. with prices that range all over the place. Plenty of places to eat and drink. We've stayed in a condo in Lake Placid Club Lodges and the Hampton Inn suites, both at the south end of Mirror Lake. High Peaks Resort at the north end of Main St. and also a small cabin in the Wildwood on the Lake complex on Saranac Ave. Any of those locations are a short bike ride to the Lussi and Logger trails.

Camped at the KOA in Wilmington with our teardrop trailer. Lake Placid/Wilmington area is pretty busy year round. So find your price range and try getting something.

Here's the local trail group: https://www.betatrails.org/

Any other questions, just ask.

2 weeks out! Psyched for a weekend of riding and spectating. Driving up Friday, probably home Monday. Anyone else gonna be there?

Going to Sat DH. Staying 1:30 away and going just for the day since it was included in my ski pass for free. Prob gunna watch the course preview and find an interesting spot(s) to watch throughout the day.

Wait, what was included in your ski pass? Do you need to purchase tickets to spectate?

finally!

Actually not too impressed with the build. Coulda started higher up and had a longer run. Shoulda had more woods/tech sections. And they JUST finished it a week before the race and there's no rain forecasted at all so it's gonna be a dust bowl and get blown up in practice.

Not sure when they finished the course, but it rained a lot from Wed to Fri.
I was supposed to ride the XC course on Thurs afternoon and they cancelled it due to rain.

I'll be there volunteering as Course Marshall & other jobs from Wed to Sun.
Watch out! I'll have a whistle & radio and won't be afraid to use it! 😜

I'd bet the course length was planned by the estimated time length of a race run. Watching it again, Gwin rode it at maybe 75% speed and it was still under 4 min. I'd bet men's times will be under 3 min. which seems to be where the UCI wants them for broadcasting. Also keeps the number of cameras required to a minimum and allows for more of each run to be shown live.
