It seems a bit strange that they filled it halfway. Seems like if they removed it, it would either be almost empty or they would have filled it?
They definitely test drove it and based on mpg average sat idle for a good long while. These dealers make very little from warranty so seems they attempt to avoid it.

There is a read out in the scanner that shows alcohol content.
Any chance your scanner works with Jeeps and can tell me wtf is wrong?
 
I have one that works on everything but if there's no cel the scanner really won't tell you jack
 
we could ask @Ryan.P to be sure but i think i remember reading that all pumps are required to have some sort of filter to address this issue so that it doesnt get to your car.

the tanks also get replaced so damn often these days that unless they are sitting underwater they should stay 'dry' inside 🤷‍♂️



i cant remember the last time i got any bad gas, what about you?
I mean I see bad gas all the time but it's kinda my job . 99% of vehicles will run fine with some funky gas . Most stations have enough monitors to automatically shut things down if water is in the tank or any major problem like that . Filters are also made to detect certain anomalies and drastically slow down if fuel isn't good .
 
I call BS - my guess: it is a bad sensor that isn't throwing a CEL.
Check the jeep forums - they'll probably know what's going on.
or some s/w upgrade to patch the last s/w upgrade...
 
Hoping someone here is a Jeep tech...I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Quadra lift (airbag suspension) that keeps blowing the right rear shock. I've gone through 2 now within the past 2 weeks. No slams or pot hole hits, just normal local driving. I replaced with OEM from my local jeep dealer so I know the part is correct. I dont think the airbag is the issue as it raises and lowers the vehicle on demand and I dont hear the pump running all the time when im driving which also is leading me to believe that I dont have a leak in the system. The tires have ~40k miles on them and feel a little choppy while driving...could a really out of balance wheel cause a shock issue? I dont see thing broken or bent in the suspension and im really at a loss at this point.
 
so have you changed them twice, or did you change the factory one, and the replacement blew out in 2 weeks? if its the latter you probably just got a DOA shock. shocks should generally be changed in axle pairs so if you didnt do this maybe thats why.

That said there isnt really much that would cause them to blow out that quick unless they were defective.

p.s. how much oil is on it that your saying its blown out?

Replaced them in pairs in June with OEM. Noticed 2 weeks ago the passenger side one was covered in oil and road grime. I replaced that one, and now the same one started leaking again. It's down to the lower mount. Jeep warranty replaced that one but they are not playing nice with the second one now telling me something else is wrong. ~112K on the vehicle
 
did they tell you what would cause it to fail that quickly? what else might be wrong? there isnt anything that i can think of which would cause the shock to fail early in such spectacular fashion.

there is a thought process that says if you spin the shaft on the shock during install it can damage the seals, but this is more of an issue on a shock with a single nut on top, the horizontally bolted ones arent typically susceptible to this.



edit: since you have the air suspension i assume you do NOT have the load leveling shocks which Chrysler loves to use on so many of their vehicles

No, they did not tell me what else could be wrong, "you could bring it in so a certified tech can look"... and I also agree that a shock shouldn't fail like that.

This shock does have the single top nut that goes into the top mount, but I held the shaft and used hand tools so didnt spin the shaft.

No load leveling shocks, just a single traditional shock that mounts just behind the airbag.

I may start with new tires as these are towards the end of the their lives.

You replaced the shock yourself?? .....did you "air down " the air bags in the Quadra lift ?? ....if not ...maybe the shock is not mounted properly??

Did not replace the airbag. Doesn't seem like it's bad since it inflates and deflates if I change the suspension mode and it doesnt loose air over night.

Is this real? Is it that any different from the shaft compressing/extending through the same seal?

it would put forces on the seal that it wasnt designed for. . . axial forces vs rotational. . . . if it actually does damage i have no clue, but iv had a TON of people say that it does.
 
An oil leak from any shock is typically due to a damaged/worn seal internal to the shock on the piston. So the first shock you replaced, that seal had worn and leaked . When you installed the new o.e. shock ,how did you hold the piston shift when you installed the top lock nut that holds on the top bracket ?? Did you hold" the piston with an 8mm socket ,while you then tightened the lock nut onto the piston??? If not then you probably tightened up the lock nut with an impact gun ?? This would have more then likely "spun" the piston and probably over heated that seal and damaged it , causing your leak . If you installed the top bracket properly,( holding the piston from spinning while tightening the lock nut) then I would say you have a defective part .

i dont replace with factory branded parts for shocks, i usually go with monroe or bilstein depending on application. Not much help this time, but maybe next time you save yourself some aggravation. (monroe has a lifetime warranty on some of their parts which is very easy to claim)

If you used a pass through socket, then yes ...I would say a bad srting of bad parts , cuz really ,not much else could cause it to leak .......we have had problems with those rear shocks ,like we have problems with the stock wrangler steering stabilizers ( don't get me started on that 🙄)

Final question... I wanted to go non OEM route, but I have not found anything on advanced or similar parts sites that say they fit with airbags. Are they just standard shocks? browsing a jeep forum I saw it mentioned that no one wants to guarantee fit since they dont have a front end component.
