Ashford and Simpson.. besides their own hits, the wrote Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Ain't Nothin Like the Real Thing and I'm Every Woman, among other motown hits they wrote and produced.

Also Amy Winehouse's Tears Dry on There Own, borrowed the background music from Ain't no Mountain High Enough...so there is that as well.

^K-tel Records was making a comeback in the 90's until they put a compilation record featuring most of the bands posted above...the record was entitled, Bands That Should Get More Respect Then They Do.
That album bankrupted the company...true story.

Don’t know most of the bands on this list, but the ones I recognize, you’re spot on. Canned heat could be the epitome of the title thread.

Built to Spill has been my favorite band for years. Love their sound, yet no one seems to know them. Saw them live at Starland Ballroom last fall and it was a blast.
