anyone know of any really good beach riding spots other than sandy hook? I am trying to find a spot with a long stretch of beach that is also ok with beach camping.
 
You can always give the pine barrens a go, there are many routes and it gives the same tread. Island beach will allow you to stay over night, but you will need to have a fishing pole - no joke.
 
Hither Hills State Park on Long Island is a bit of a haul (2.5 hours from where I live (morristown)...maybe closer for you if you're in Bergen). But the beach riding out in the Hamptons is fantastic after the beach crowds disappear. I haven't tried the camping, but looks pretty legit. There's also some singletrack inland. I can't find the map, but try CLIMB online.
