Your killing my feed 😉

Could we add one more? “Bikepacking Trips and Events “ for those that want to invite others to a planned or proposed trip?
Thanks

Have you filled out the proper Change Request Form ?

Next committee meeting is Thursday, we'll see if it is accepted, then get it in queue for resource assignment.
Those meetings are on Tuesdays after budget approval meetings which are Wednesdays.
Typically scheduling 6-8 weeks out for CRs.
There will also be a post mortem on why this was not identified in the initial specs.

I do not miss work one bit

My backpacking is now a 30yo memory, but it was indeed memorable! I had a crappy steel bike and a ton of unnecessary stuff, not to mention I was still smoking a pack of chesterfields a day and having smoking breaks while riding…ah, to be young and stupid again ( as opposed to be old and stupid). I like the idea of the new forum.

I would hate backpacking, no way my back would survive it. Bike packing would be cool but I really, really like indoor plumbing and beds.

Like those above, I also have bikepacking stuff and a great bike for it, but have not bikepacked. Every year I tell myself "This is the year" and then life (and planning around a young child) gets in the way.

I have a rough-draft planning spreadsheet for the Empire State Trail, NYC to Buffalo, 560 miles over 10 days (45-65mi/day) or 7 days (avg 80mi/day). Not a ton of elevation change, and most of that is south of Albany. It's more than I could do this year (both time-off wise and fitness-wise) but I'd be down for a couple days at a time covering sections of it if someone else wants to go.

I've also looked at East Coast Greenway trips.

Now I've got the itch again..... (not the kind I need a doctor for)

I moved away from the camping to the hotels. Well, did when I still did touring.

I found I much rather enjoyed a warm shower, walking around a town/city, going out for a nice dinner, etc and then a nice bed. Especially in the winter when the sun goes down early and you're sitting around a campsite cold and bored.

I'm in the same boat, also have a bad back and neck. Any suggestions on options sleeping outside? I avoid camping for these reasons as I can't function the day after when in a pad and tent. Is bike packing with daily hotel stops really bike packing? Thinking to ride to DC pretty much every year for cherry blossoms.

In recent years I’ve upgraded my backpacking sleep system to be much more comfortable.

1: Inflatable pillow rather than fleece shoved into a tee-shirt ( under inflated is most comfortable )

2 : Generous air mattress ( eg: 3” thick not 0.75 foam pad )

3 : Big Agnes Sidewinder sleeping bag ( designed to allow side sleepers to move around in comfort ) has a hood that locks the pillow in as well

Air mattress still squeaks more than I would like as I flop around but I’m adjusting

This opens up the door to campfires and cooking outside and drinking coffee outside etc etc 👍

I love my Klymit static v sleeping pad and my sea to summit pillow.
Need to find a non down sleeping bag that is really compact when packed..
I have a good summer bag that I use as a quilt but for anything under 40 degrees I have to wear and pack extra layers.

I found a wider air mattress keeps me from feeling like I'm on the edge all the time. Better sleep. Worth the extra few ounces.
I slightly under inflate mattress & pillow. Much more comfy.
A quilt is also better than a bag for side sleeping & associated gymnastics. Very light too which cancels out the wider air mattress.

Can we get a bike packing thread? Don't know where it would go. The powers that be can decide.

If there is any interest post up. It could be a place were we plan trips, talk gear, discuss routes, mileage, campsites, Just curious if anyone here would be down with a thread for that type of fun and recreation?
Especially if you throw in some hiking in the mix 🙂
