Rare day where it was a benefit to be on the North side of 220 lbs.

It was 4º when I rolled out of the garage this morning. My Garmin had more than half a charge but it died 8 minutes into the ride. Not to worry, I fired up Strava on my phone for the first time I can remember in years to log the rest of the ride. I even ran into the infamous @Piston Honda as I was riding through the local woods.

Today's goal was to find the new trails in Edith that @pygmypony had mentioned to me. I rode to the top of the hill near the golf course like he said and I still couldn't find it. I even tried comparing Strava rides to my Google Maps location and no dice.

Then I saw a silver fat bike climbing up the other side of the hill. I said to myself, if there's a rear fender on that thing it's got to be @Tim. He so graciously showed me the way. Thank you, good sir!

The new trail is sweet. The drop was surprising. And it opens up a more direct route to/from home.

Sidebar: I'm totally bad with faces. If I don't recognize you, show me a pic of your bike.

Took a much needed 2 days off after 4 days in a row post COVID just to make sure I don’t overdo it. It was too F cold anyway the last 2 days so didn’t matter to me.

Planned a casual Columbia Trail ride out and back to HB. just to get the endurance up and also shakedown with the new Terravail Washburn gravel tires. New Marty’s shop is coming along looks great.

It was cold at 9am but manageable with the right gear on. I Felt ok rolling to the trail on the roads but once we hit the gravel I felt kinda bogged down. Not sure if it’s me or the new tire setup but we managed a decent winter pace and despite a few icy spots the trail was good and firm.

Will have to try a few more rides on these tires before I decide if they work. Turns out they are heavier than the GK i had so it’s probably that. Or I am still slow. Or both.

Glad to get out this is my longest ride post COVID and the breathing issues are just about gone after only a week.
