BIYF Winter 2020-2021: Go Zwift or Go Home!!!!

No points but backyard single track is totally rideable. Took me like 15-20 loops to get .5 miles. Strava doesn’t show it due to my privacy zone setting which is a good thing.

Aired down the tires a bit. Rides better CCW due to the ever so slight downhill from the front to the back part of the yard.

Only wish I did this sooner. Wife won’t be impressed when she gets home.

Snow ride at the Tourne today. Thanks thanks @JimN for the trail conditions report. Lots of familiar faces out on the trails. Wanted to keep riding but ran out of time. Trails were nicely packed but only about an 8” wide footprint to work with so a good practice to holding the line. Go off the packed area and sink in and stop instantly. Do that at too high a speed and OTB can happen. Have to head back there soon.

Almost thought about going there today but never been before so didn’t want the first ride to be unplanned last minute thing.

How’s the terrain for an “advanced beginner”?

Not sure that I would recommend it at this time as it’s a challenge to stay on the narrow packed areas.

1:40 plus dark plus freezing something = 3.5
May be the Last of the Goodness
Raced to get dressed and get out the door for the dark bonus, less than 15 min bed to bike, to find a sheet of ice. So walked though the snow/edge of road to get the a main road and was able to ride in the few tire tracks. Where the other day I was avoiding salt, today I was looking for it. Really slow going for the 3 mile to Core , around 27 min and it also started snowing/drizzling. The trails were great, and the moisture overnight added to the packness. That being said, with temps today maybe getting close to 40 and rain early in the week, this may be the last of the goodness. Heavy mist on the way back left some front edge crusting.

SNOW DEEP

Another ride where I walked as much as rode. Many of the local trails were hardpacked 15" wide from XC skiers, snowshoers, hikers and runners, especially around the lake west of WR Tracy. However, the occasional plunge into 28" of fresh powder slowed things down. So did the not so broken trail. It takes about four times as long to walk a trail as ride. Ask me how I know. Saw 4 people, two dogs and one leash. Also did a 40 minute work call out in the tundra right here

while walking back and forth to improve the packing.

The half mile of MUT that I usually climb on Deerpath had most of the last two weeks of snow on it, so I climbed with the cars. On the way back, Brightwood Park was all hardpack on the main trails, so that was a half mile plus.

I started my Garmin about 20 or 15 minutes after leaving home, so I manually adjusted the time for that.

Happy to report I was back on a bike this morning. Less happy to report that my Garmin cropped out on my a did not record most of my ride, it wouldn’t be fair to ask for points as it has happened before...I’m not that type of guy. My score is meager anyway so...For those interested Ringwood fire roads are nicely packed, just don’t get on a trail or you’ll be in knee high soft snow trying to get traction. Also tried the big boy...Aarrrr....

I had a ride drop last week and @Piston Honda i think had and issue recently
As well. Sounds like they dropped new gps something that screwed something. Was ok on the next ride.

Ten bonus points for post of the month. Best faceplant in awhile. Well done.

My Garmin was probably protesting being actually used for a ride after being on administrative leave for so long...

Yeah, mine has been fine since that incident *knock on wood*

While we're on the subject, does your Garmin charge after a sub-25° ride? I have to warm mine up in my pocket or on top of a chemical warmer for a few minutes before it will charge. Figure it's a battery safety thing, but who knows.

I was out yesterday when it was 22 and did a four hour ride. Left when Garmin was a 60% and dropped down to 9% in just 3 hours - going into battery preservation mode. Ran down really quickly!

When I got home, took some time inside before it would begin to charge.
