I remember those oil pumps would get a piece of broken hard as a rock valve guide seal jammed in them, and twist off the oil pump shaft, then no spark.
hahah, thankfully no, not that....My engine while I rebuilt it in 2000ish...it really has never had more than ~500 miles on an oil change and maybe only has 4000 miles total on it...so its still spotless inside. BUTTTTTT....
So as I have been running the car and trying to work out some bugs, I have been noticing grey smoke...I mean it just smells like its running rich, not like oil...but its lingering like oil smoke....so when i took it for a ride around the block after a few miles the valve cover leaked a little oil....and as i have the car in the garage, reving and holind ghe engine for a bit at 2000 rpm....im getting more smoke eventually as it gets warmer.....so I pulled a few of the plugs...not good....i pulled the plugs in the corners of the engine, they all look like this...
the engine is running clean, not misfiring...i mean not its best, but not terrible....so im like WTF?
So then I thought back to 2014....before I took this car apart....I did a little project to clean up the horrible looking engine bay. When I built this engine I put those GIANT shelby 427 valve cover on it....they are about twice the size of my stock ford ones.....Right away, i could not get them to stop leaking....I just assumed they were 50+ years old, bent and pretty shot.....few months later i decided to tear the car apart and start this project, so I figured new valve covers would fix this issue......so last night I had this revelation....The HV oil pump is just FLOODING the valve cover with oil now. I didnt notice this with the giant valve covers...So i started doing some research and sure enough, this is an issue with FE engines, factory heads and HV oil pumps....So what the FE guys do is drop a holley 90 carb jet into the oil supply hole in the head to restrict the oil...and also make sure the drainback holes are clean of any debris.....
So thats the theory im going to try first.
