Car-spotting thread

I mean if you are going to spend the money to restore that car....Like I would THINK you toss the old low compression 400 parts in the trash and build a proper 400....which was a good motor and can make a ton of power....just not hamstrung by 1977 emissions.
This guy in Hackettstown specializes in gen2 Firebirds. I met him at a meet a few years ago and still need to pull some cash together so that he can fine tune my car. His gold TransAm is absolutely beautiful, and is nothing like the Bandit's version.

in college I had a 77 Monte carlo, but I like this model generation style much better. there's a version of that one that came with a 454 thats on my dream car list.
Long story of how and why, but when I was 16 my father ended up with a 79 Monte Carlo SS that looked like a regular MC and he didn't want me to buy my own car yet, so... I used it to race all my friends and usually won. Neutral drops front of the HS were particularly fun. I drove it for 9 months until my father came home one day and said "good news, bad news. Good news is you can buy your own car and I'll pay half. Bad news is you did about $7k worth of damages to the Monte Carlo so I traded it in."

Looks like this one. I waxed the black hood at least twice a week.

neutral dropping someone else's car was a rite of passage growing up, wonder if that's still a thing?

How many thousands worth of damage did you do? 😂

well, I blew an engine in my firebird twice, and dad's fiero gt once, spun the family cricket and clipped a tree.
I replaced the firebird engines myself at $300 each. purchased a donor cricket for $200.
my mom got Pontiac to replace the fiero engine - they should have had a rev limiter 😀
I ran the co van into the back of someone - van was fine - back when ya had to look at a map and for house numbers.
parked same van, and forgot to put it in park - rolled into the house next to the lot. luckily it was a block wall.
that cost me some $$ - parked the fiero under a p/u truck - it hit the bolts under the hitch - guy looks and says sucks for you, and left.

been pretty good since then - just people pulling out in front of me unexpectedly. I square em up so they don't get hurt.

We have a brand new Model 3 Performance here. Looks pristine except wheels are a little muddy, figured maybe they had a little off road excursion. Nope. Guy took it directly from the dealer to a wrap shop to do the whole car in PPF. Wrap shop is in Plainfield...yeah. Water over the sills. Thing has been here a few days and is still oozing water out. So much condensation inside looks like it's raining.
Worst part is they finished the PPF so somebody has to pay that bill too.

Would that just be a totalled car by the insurance? Why even try to dry it out

That was a generous offer. When I turned 16 my father told me you better get a job and buy your own car if you ever want to drive
My father was a car guy in his previous life. I don't think he realized how much and how quick I could destroy that car.
interesting - the whole reason I had a paper route, and sweeping/stocking job at a car parts place was to save up for a car....starting around 12 years old.
I worked as a Draftsman at his firm starting when I was 12 or 13. I had the money, but for some reason he thought this would be cheaper.
