Casette Wobble

Hi,

I searched the forums for "casette wobble" but couldnt find any. So I'm starting a thread. I have a wheel that has Vuelta hubs. I noticed the casette is wobbling slightly left and right while coasting. I made sure the casette is tight and no play, skewers are tight also. Is this normal? I have a Deore hub and it doesnt do this. Wondering if anyone has the same scenario and if it affects your shifting at all or have you done any fix to it. Thanks.

This is a fairly common issue on lower end hubs. Think about some new wheels.

oh boy...its actually new vuelta zerolite pro wheelset. cartridge bearing and all... 😱 I emailed the online dealer and they said its normal. i was leaning more to disagree with them, just because I have a Deore hub and it doesnt do this.

just like he said, lower end wheelsets. Your deore hub is probably higher quality that the vuelta one. Shimano uses loose ball bearings all the way up to dura-ace.

Casette wobble - fixed!

First...thanks for the replies. I took a chance and disassembled the rear hub. It's fairly easy with the cartridge bearings/axle. I bought a 12mm hex key at Sears, took out the cartridge bearing/axle...then removed the hub. The hollow bolt holding the hub is actually on the non-drive side, it took a bit of force to turn the bolt with the hex key. I then added some grease and re-seated the hub...tighten the bolt and voila! wobble gone! woohoo! looks like the hub wasn't seated properly from the factory.

Hopefully, this will help out someone in the future.
