I grew up in South Jersey and spent lots of time in the pine barrens and honestly don't remember chiggers being a thing. (I use the term "grew up" loosely here.)

The worst chigger attack I have ever suffered was on orange trail in wharton (batsto). I only got off the bike once to get over a log. When I got home I noticed crawlies but it was too late. I don't touch the ground there anymore...looking to buy e-hoverbike.

I am going to venture to say the chiggers hitched a ride out there from sandy NJ.

The owners sent us an informational packet about chiggers (because most people don't know about them) and said if we used the fire pit we probably got them from the tall grass around it. We were also out there an entire week and didn't get itchy until the last day. We followed up with some googling and sure enough people in that region have also complained about chiggers.

I am going to venture to say that all chiggers worldwide originated from Allaire.
