Sounds like how I was geared up today but worked perfectly for meIt's almost funny how you can be so close to dressing correctly, but be one article of clothing off and it can ruin the ride. That was my situation today. Bid thermal knickers- check. Tights - check. Club Ride jeans as third over layer - check. Thermal base layer + long sleeve jersey + wind breaker - check. Ski socks + warm flat pedal shoes - check. Good winter gloves - check. Proper head gear - complete miss. Thus I didn't even last a mile into the ride before I had to bail. Felt like such a noob... 🙄
I had an issue as well. I only had bibs/knee warmers and thermal tights. I needed one more layer. My hips/ass were getting cold towards the end. I picked up an extra layer today. I’m hoping to try it out tomorrow. It's almost funny how you can be so close to dressing correctly, but be one article of clothing off and it can ruin the ride. That was my situation today. I invested in an all in one thermal bib tight with some wind stuff in the thighs and they do a great job on days like today. The single layer allows for more freedom of movement as well.
Kinda like these but they're the older model. I also have a pair of Pearl Izumi ones that are basically the same.

Cold legs equal less circulation, and less circulation equals reduced performance. So when the temperature dips, pull on a pair of the SL Pro Thermal Bi...www.specialized.com
Knee high ski socks under tights works pretty good down to the teens for me. I also wear chamois shorts, insulated tights over that, then some MTB shorts as a final layer to keep my buttocks warm.Nice, those look good. I have the PI AmFib ones that I like but they just aren’t warm enough.

You Animal!A day at -30° F, once in Stowe, once up in Canada.
Oh damn. Those are usually my go to. If I'm doing more windy exposed stuff I throw the Pearl Rain Pants over them to act as an extra wind barrier. That should get you down into - degrees.
